This started a couple months ago when I decided I should put subs in my car. My friend had a shitty 12" visonik and he sold it to me for really cheap. My other friend had a 1000w xplod amp he was selling for cheap with the wiring kit. Shitty setup and the sub cut out when I turned the volume up. I blamed it on the sub and bought a 10" mtx from my other friend. It was louder but still cut out when I turned the volume up. I got pissed and bought 2 12" kenwood kfc-w3013ps subs. They are rated at 4 ohms and 400rms with a peak of 1200w The dude also threw in a 2 channel eclipse amp. There is nothing on the amp with specs but the dude told be it was pushing 1000w through each channel. I think he was just trying to make a sale though. I tested the subs with a 9 volt and they both work. The light turns on on the amp too. The subs barely work and completely cut out when I turn it up. I have an 8 gauge power wire running from my battery with a 30 amp fuse in it. I am using 16 gauge speaker wire. I am using a jumper cable wire as my ground (it's cut and clamped into one of those o things.) The remote wire is also 16 gauge. My battery and alternator are good too. I can't figure this out and I'm getting pissed. What do you guys think?
Wish I could help. I just put in 2-12in duals with a 2000w adiopipe amp. Bitches hit hard. Your ground sounds wack to me, a jumper cable? Don't think that's your problem tho. Check the RCAs also what kinda deck?
if everythings hooked up correctly just try tightening everything up and make sure your ground connection is going to bare metal. Every few months i have to retighten shit back there cuz it rattles itself loose.
The jumper cable is solid copper and thicker than 8 gauge so I thought it would be better. RCA's are nice and snug in their holes. It's a pioneer deck. It's not the nicest one but it's not that shitty. All of it was preowned and my friend saw it work a couple weeks ago.
Everything seems tight, I have countless self tapping screws so I'll see if different ground placement helps. Also, the light on the amp was dimming a little bit last night and today the light didn't come on until I started my car.
Remote wire maybe. Just go through and check everything. Get your hands on a voltmeter. This is very simple stuff were dealing with here.
lol, 1000 and 2000 watt subs, heard of RMS? your 1000 will probably be no more than 300 watt RMS. just sayin.
That's what pisses me off the most is it's only 7 wires I have to worry about and I can't figure it out.
The kenwoods are rated at 400rms, the xplod is rated at 450rms, new amp is unknown. Ever heard of reading? it's all up there.
yah if its not turning on its probably your remote. If everything is connected and your fuses are good then your problem lies in the hardware.
did you run all the wiring on the same side of the car? your power wiring should be on the entirely opposite side of the car... check the connections. sounds like it could just be a shitty install job.
Here is your answer: 1000watts divided by 12 volts = 83 amps! WAY more than a 30amp fuse can handle, massive voltage drops = amp turning off. Replace that fire hazard with a nice 4 gauge wire on AT LEAST 110amp fuse. I also highly reccomend a power cap when running that kind of power
Excellent post. I had a power cable with a 50 amp fuse I hooked up and the light didn't dim, it was just under powered. I'm going to stop by 101 deals tomorrow and see if he will hook me up with some 4 gauge and a 110 for cheap. I'll let you know how it goes.
Cool, if that does not fix the issue I hate to say it but sounds like that amp is pooched, never had an amp do that tho, and I've made a LOT of systems. I once broke 150db and 2 windows with only 300watts of Jensen power lol! I ALWAYS go overkill on the power lines, I also recomend beefing up the battery to body ground cable as that will be the electrical systems weakest link after you change the power cable. Let me know how it turns out, I'm subbed to find out
Oh and another note, take it easy with those big stereos! I have SEVERELY damaged my hearing and only did the stereo thing for 5-6 years
whos installing this stuff? What kind of head unit do you have? Is the bass blocked on your door speakers? Amp tuned correctly? lots to take into consideration. Take it to a shop, they'll diagnose it in a second probably free of charge..
8 gauge wire and a 30 amp fuse...? I'm sorry are you retarded? I run a 4 gauge power cable with a 100amp fuse for a 12' alpine type r at 1250w
