submersible strainer filter

  1. I built a new strainer/filter for my hydroponic system as the original design gets filled with sediment and starts to restrict flow. I made the new one out of 4 inch PVC and a bulkhead fitting with a 1 inch nipple.

    Thing weighs about 4lbs!

  2. The obvious solution would be to change your nutrients. If they have that much sediment, you need a different nutrient line. Try Jacks 321 or Athena Pro Line !!!!

  3. I have had very good results with GH stuff.
You have to mix it up good before using though.
The filter bag I was using is too fine of a mesh IMO.

  4. Here are pics of the old filter.
Funky but it worked (until it clogged up) lol

  5. UPDATE:
It works great. Flow is strong and steady.

  6. I would like to build one, it would be perfect for my setup could you please make a tutorial?..you should put it in the design/diy section definitely would be useful for those of us the can't afford to buy one

  7. Pretty simple really.

A 4" piece of PVC and two end caps.

    A bulkhead fitting with a 1" nipple.

    #20 stainless steel mesh.

I cut the PVC the same length as the screen.

  8. I have a few questions:How did you apply the holes to the PVC pipe? Did you glue on the end caps? How did you attach the nipple and bulkhead to the end cap. Is the mesh permanently in the PVC or can it be removed, how long do you cut the 4" PVC pipe? I love to do Diy it's a good way to customize your own setups this would make my setup complete (one less problem to deal with in my system...) I'm sorry that I can't seem to grasp the instruction part though.

  9. I drilled the holes in the PVC with a hole cutter.
I glued on the end cap with the bulk head fitting.
The other end cap is "lose" to make cleaning easier.
The mesh can be removed for cleaning, it is the same length as the PVC.
All parts were available on AMAZON.
