Stunted growth? Help!

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Hovobonz, Jun 17, 2020.

  1. Hello all,

move recently started my first grow. I have 6 plants growing all from random seeds I’ve found over the last couple of months. I’m growing them in my closet with two 1200w led lights with both veg and bloom lights turned on. The lights are about 20-24 inches. I water about once a day or when the soil (fox farm ocean forest) is dry and the pot isn’t as heavy. I do not use nutrients only balanced PH water hovering around 6.50. The temperature ranges from 72-85 degrees and on really hot days shoots up to 90ish until I get extra ventilation in the closet and it drops back to the low 80’s. I’m not sure if these are auto or photo.

I was able to get a rough measurement of all 6 plants.

    Betty - 4in
    Bessy 4in
    Lola - 3in
    Meg - 4in
    Kandy- 5in

  2. I can't tell if you have a fan in there for circulation, but that's a good idea to have one. They look healthy and the internodal spacing looks good. How old are they? You could probably move the lights a bit closer still if you wanted to.

  3. I do have an oscillating fan leveled with the canopy. They sprouted about 3 - 3 1/2 weeks ago.

  4. I'd be happy with that progress and their health! I find that when I start in larger pots things may seem a little slow above the soil for a while. The roots are likely building a massive system and your plant will end up taking off at some point.

I also just noticed something in your last picture. I see two plants in one pot. If you are experimenting for fun then go for it. However, two plants in one pot usually means the plants roots will fight each other for space. One will prevail and the other will suffer, but neither will really thrive compared to being in their own pot.

  5. That seed ended up in that pot by accident. Just letting go another week or so before I transfer to a separate pot.

Okay great. That’s good to know.

Funny, I just noticed your name. That one of the first strains I ever smoked from a dispensary.

    Thanks for your input!

  6. Ok that's good. Be careful of the roots when digging it up!

No kidding! I didn't even know that it is a strain to be honest lol. It's a reference to Carl Sagan and the Voyager 1 for me. It's also why I'm "Pale" and not a "Member" under my name. Regardless of that, smoking your own harvest for the first time is going to be something to remember! If you post updates here I'll be sure to check them out (same for if you start a journal and link it here).

  7. Lol well then that’s a funny coincidence. I’m 90% sure that’s where they got the name from in the first place lol.

If you have any tips for a first time grower I’d love to hear it.

    Cheers.

  8. Likely so! I'll have to keep an eye out for seeds next time I need to order more.

I think the best thing is to keep reading and learning, but keep it simple in your first grow or few. When new growers do the basics they usually end up learning a lot first hand and getting an actual harvest. Trying too much too soon or trying some crazy trick can definitely bite a grower in the bud.

There's plenty of people who are really knowledgeable on here so--if you have specific questions--I'm sure you could be helped by one person or another.
