Stumped On Yellow Leaves

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by swiftymc, Jul 31, 2006.

  1. Ok...For a while now the bottom most leaves of my plant have been turning yellow and eventually needing to be clipped. This reoccurs with the next set of leaves (ALWAYS AND ONLY THE BOTTOM MOST SET) It also takes about a week before each set of leaves acutally appears dead and beyond saving.

I had been told it was a nitrogen problem. I mixed up some Miracle Grow into my watering once or twice, this did not seem to help the problem one bit. I have since added these small pellets which resemble those found in store bought potting soil. I was told these could also help my Nitrogen problem, they also have not seemed to help one bit.

I was wondering if maybe this could be an over or under-watering problem instead? My schedule is normally a 16oz bottle of water every other day. This seems be be working fine for the rest of the plant as it seems to grow just fine.

I need some specific suggestions as to what I can do...
If there is a certain type of anything...please tell

Please help me save my plants before the yellow-ness works its way through all the leaves.

  2. I picked up an oz of some bud with some yellow leaves and it got me fucking retarded.

I know this probably doesn't help much, but I figured I'd give my input :smoking:

  3. First, how old is the plant and what size pot is it in, and what is the soil you are using?
If your plant isn't rootbound from being in too small a pot, then I would check the pH of your soil as ph Lockout can occur so the plant can't absorb N as the pH is off.

Next, are any of the leaves starting to curl up from the edges? probably not, but worth asking.

It does sound like you have a Nitrogen deficiency problem but sometimes just adding N doesn't fix it as often there is a reason the plant can't absorb the N from the soil so adding more won't help, infact, it could cause problems later on with over ferting once you get this problem figured out.

  4. I think it would be easiest to just list off answers to your questions.

    1) the plant is about 2 months old...(& a little over like 2ft tall)

    2) the pot has about a 10" diameter and its about a foot deep

    3) I originally planted in miracle grow potting soil(In a smaller pot) and transfered the whole chunk into this bigger pot with dirt from the ground(where there is a huge abundence of wild plants & flowers growing well in it)

    4) there are no significant curling of the leaves...(meaning they look healthy up until the point they turn yellow)

So do you think my watering schedule & ammount is sufficient enough? or could that possibly be linked to this problem at all? I just find it weird that this only happens to the bottom most leaves...and once they are clipped, it moves up to the next set and so on...

Normally when I see this yellow leaf problem it seems to be sporadic thoughout the sets of leaves on the plant.

  5. The same thing happened to my plants, when they were about that old and that tall. I cut back on watering from using about a quarter gallon a day to about a third of a gallon every other day. Also, are ur plants potted or not. If theyre potted just check the dampness of the soil with ur finger, u should be able to tell. And one more thing, are the leaves that are dying the first leaves that started on the plant? Like the first level has 1, then 3, then eventually 5. My plants' leaves did that for the 1's, 3's and then 2 of the 5's then it stopped...so if thats the case then i wouldnt worry about it too much jus wait it out and it will stop

  6. Please keep in mind I cannot draw in paint to save my life, nor is this to scale by any means. I am just trying to show how the leaves have been dying.

I dont remember off hand at what level they finally reached 5 leaves. I CAN say that atleast 2 sets which had 5 leaves have turned yellow and died. They have now reached the point at which I topped the plant the first time and it split. I am just fearing that the whole plant will keep doing this if I cannot fix it soon enough

The thing is...the plant seems to grow absolutely fine! and continues to grow great after i recently topped it once again. It acutally seems to sprout up quickly after being topped each time.

I will do my best to get a real picture soon.

  7. Well i don't exactly kno wut all that was supposed to mean... but if it doesnt stop within about a week from now then u got some other kinda problem, and then i wouldnt kno wut to tell ya...sry

  8. ok first things first, you are supossed to feed your plant WEEKLY! unless your soil is rich in nutrients then i would wait at least 1 to 20 days and no longer than 30 days

after that 30 day mark the plant pretty much uses the ferts in the soil

you need to feed your plant weekly, with that mg fert your using use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon weekly! and your problem will go away as long as its a nitrogen deficiency, with you not feeding your plants im sure it is a nitrogen problem, i could tell you 100% if you had pics

but you need to remember to feed your plants weekly!

  9. I have a PH testing kit...but I dont know how I should test a solid thing such as the soil....should I add a little tap water or water from my pur filter. or just mix soil with the phenol red directly?

  10. add soil water and ph pill thing and shake it together
