This seems to be agreed upon by both left-wing and right-wing schools of thought..

Jihadi John: The bourgeois terrorist - CNN.com
Mental illness has become a convenient scapegoat for terrorism
It’s not the poverty in the Middle East that’s driving terrorism—it’s the politics

Many of these studies also refute the claim that most terrorists are 'Lone wolfs' or 'Mentally ill' .

This also seems to apply to the majority of white mass-shooters in the US; they too mostly come from comfortable, middle-class, educated backgrounds.

.. What's even more astonishing is that .. it also refutes the claim that radicalization is the result of a failure of Muslims to integrate to western culture. Most of these muslim immigrants who succumb to radicalization are actually well-integrated.

The pattern here seems to have something to do with the political instability in their countries of origin. Islamic terrorists are more likely to come from countries that are politically oppressive.. (and encouraged to become even more politically oppressive by foreign, military intervention..)

I wouldn't go as far as to call it a cultural war, either .. as most victims of suicide bombers tend to be Muslims. Terrorism in the west is pretty rare overall .. most of the times when you hear of suicide bombers, they tend to occur in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. and the death tolls seem to be far greater there. It is a political war.

Does that mean all hope is lost, and we'll never be able to stop terrorism because it is so complex? Should we ban all immigrants? (A travel ban most certainly wouldn't have stopped the 9/11 hijackers as they hijacked a plane from overseas.. and tougher security measures haven't stopped planes from going missing as of recently ..)

In the short term, there is likely no one solution .. but in the long term, we really need to start thinking about how we can make our lives more meaningful, how we can obtain spirituality and greater purpose, without having to resort to toxic ideologies such as religious fundamentalism, racial superiority, etc. That said - you can't get rid of ideas and ideologies by sheer force.. they can only be undone by providing better, more meaningful alternatives.

Of course, before we can do that, we have to become experts on Jihadism and Islam .. to really understand what makes them tick. We aren't doing that.. we don't Know our enemy.. we're addicted to fear mongering and simplistic solutions.

Maybe the world just needs to smoke more weed, play more video games and have more sex.

  2. Terrorism has always been part of war (Gorilla warfare, Arial bombing of city's, etc) and the human race.

    It wont magically disappear.

That is not accurate, all of the hijacked planes on 9/11 were domestic flights, and the hijackers were already in the United States.

    Timeline:
September 11, 2001 - Nineteen men hijack four commercial airlines loaded with fuel for cross country flights, to carry out a terrorist attack on the United States orchestrated by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

-- 8:46 a.m. ET (approx.) - American Airlines Flight 11 (traveling from Boston to Los Angeles) strikes the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The plane is piloted by plot leader Mohamed Atta.
-- 9:03 a.m. ET (approx.) - United Airlines Flight 175 (traveling from Boston to Los Angeles) strikes the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The plane is piloted by hijacker Marwan al Shehhi.
-- 9:37 a.m. ET (approx.) - American Airlines Flight 77 (traveling from Dulles, Virginia, to Los Angeles) strikes the Pentagon Building in Washington, DC. The plane is piloted by hijacker Hani Hanjour.
-- 10:03 a.m. ET (approx.) - United Airlines Flight 93 (traveling from Newark, New Jersey, to San Francisco) crashes in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The plane is piloted by hijacker Ziad Jarrah.

  4. Terrorism pre-Isis was more political. Terrorists today are more religious fanatics than the ones who used to write manifestos and drink at strip clubs before killing themselves. I'd like to see that study examining attacks since 2014.

The source is the Middle East, and that's where the most violence is carried out. The solution there is economic growth, access to internet and muslims need to stop marrying their cousins.

  5. Not sure if you mean the terrorists lately or the terrorists that are part of this whole Muslim fundamentalist thing.

Either way, a lot of the Muslim fundamentalists have been drinking and going to strip clubs (more likely online or pay per view porn).

It is very strange. Seems like a current going through the world of killing as many people as you can before killing yourself due to some beef you have with society. It has happened a couple of times this week with people who have no religious motive whatsoever. I just keep hoping in twenty or thirty years we can all look back on it and go "wow, that sucked. Glad it's over."

  7. when the Muslim extremest stop im sure the Christian ones will start up again....its like a pendulum.

Remember the sarin gas attacks? Some group always has a beef and wants attention

The sad part is that they dont even need to kill to many people and they get what they want..Lots of media attention and social chatting about them.

  8. and nearly all of the hijackers were Saudi's....not afganies...yet the US did not invade Saudi Arabia.....

  9. Worse, they continue to keep enabling and arming them.

Did you see Trump sucking up to the Saudi Royal family?

The US government has no desire to defeat ISIS. Like the Israelis it suits them to have ISIS running around causing chaos. It's what the US military industrial complex needs to justify its warmongering.

ISIS/Saudi Arabia/US Government are like peas in a pod.

  10. Thanks. Its true though. It explains a lot of things if you think about it.

Invade, make a half arsed attempt to defeat the enemy and never go home.
Plenty of money to be made in warmongering. They don't want the wars to stop. It's big business.

The unyielding support for the Saudi Royal family is the real giveaway. Fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 hijackers were Saudis but not a word said. Saudi Arabia is financing extremist preachers in Mosques all over the world but again the US government is mute.

The British government is under serious pressure at the moment to release a report in to the funding of Jihadis in Britain. It's been reported that it points the finger at Saudi Arabia.

That will prove very embarrassing for Trump if it comes out. He's after flogging Saudi Arabia over $100bn of arms.

'Sensitive' UK terror funding inquiry may never be published

  11. I agree. It's an insult to the likes of the IRA/ETA/PLO etc to be lumped in with ISIS/al Qaeda. They had clear political manifestoes, a list of demands if you want.

This new bastardised ISIS scum have no cause apart from a longing for the dark ages. We need to stop calling them terrorists and address them by their correct title - savages.

The freaks carrying out the attacks in Europe are for the most part social outcasts, shunned by their own communities. The lads in London were barred from their local Mosques. Members of the congregation called the cops who decided they weren't a threat.
Think about it. An Iman from a large Mosque in London rings the cops and reports a Muslim he thinks is a danger because of his extremism and they thinks he's mistaken.
That lad should have been locked up that day.

  13. Round up Islamic fanatics and dump them in downtown Mogadishu. If they hate the country they live in why not send them somewhere they can be happy and surrounded by like minded people.

  14. The number one employer of people in America is the arms industry. There are factories in every state.

You cannot stock pile arms for ever, and to retrench workers would be bad politically. (in ever state).

Wars allow the stock piles to be used. Wars justify a large standing army which again helps with unemployment. A large standing army also means that a large % of the population lives and breaths what they are told.

For the amount of money spent on the military you need an enemy. If you haven't got one then you need to create one. (U.S has been making China the enemy for the last few years, Iran and North Korea lately.)

ISIS or any war is good for business but bad for the population. After all, all that money spent fighting ISIS could of been used for tax payer funded health care for all. (known as free heath care). Not to mention the lives that would not be lost.

  15. I'll pass. Making thought crimes even including a problem like terrorism is a god awful idea. It's supposed to be hard for the government to deprive American citizens of rights and many have forgotten that. Until people commit a crime there's not much we can do and that's the price of freedom from government intrusion into our lives. The guys in England were on a list of suspected potential terrorists but it's hard to do anything until they actually commit the crime. We're not living in the minority report.

  16. I reckon something on that line could solve the refugee crisis Ed. Like for like. An exchange programme.

For every migrant/refugee taken in you get to send one of your own the other way. Empty the prisons of the West into ISIS territory. Give them $2 and a penknife and if they make it back to their home country they can go back to the comfort of their prison cell.

I know for ye Yanks that could mean ending up in Syria for smoking a few joints but we can't please everyone, can we?
