Stretching problem

  1. Strain: Auto Blueberry (fem)
    Setup: PC grow

    Problem:
My two babies have been growing from seed for about a week now. They both are about 4 inches tall yet the total leaf span is about 1 inch ( including both leaves). I keep them about 2-3 inches away from the light.

Possible causes: lack of light? I try to get them as much light as possible but I am only managing about 8 hours a day at the moment. Going to try and get 12 hours a day.

  2. you want like 18 hours of light a day for vegetative growth. and you didn't really give any info on the lighting situation.. Is this outdoor? indoor? using hid or cfl or leds? stretching is caused by lack of light.

  3. You can't give your plant 8 hours of light and expect it to do well.

  4. I have the same problem. I've always been quite stiff. Pilates really loosens up your muscles

You need to do some more research. The fact that you're starting a seedling out on 8 hours of light tells me you haven't done much. I'm assuming this is because you're doing the lights manually without a timer. Buy a timer. If you can't afford a timer you can't afford to grow.

  6. How many watts?

You need around 150 actual watts for two plants. As previous posts state, you need the light on much longer. Autos like 20/4 and 18/6. Get a timer and set your lights to a schedule

  7. What would happen if I added more soil so the long stem is under soil? Would it turn to roots?

Why are you only managing 8 hours bro.

And also i dont think your plants are ready for 12 hours, im sure i will be quoted if im wrong but if they are from seed im sure they cant be mature plants yet.

  9. stop growing immediately....your wasting your time ....you wanna add more soil to bury the plant a little lower??...wow....

  10. He's asking if he should add soil to support the plants. This does help, but I prefer to just use a stake to prop it up until it gains strength

    Again OP, how many watts?

  11. i understand byo weed...BUT...taken all the things that has been said by the op...i would think the best advise is for him to learn before he goes invests all the time and money that this hobby needs....he needs to learn first the concept...of what it takes to raise a plant in the first place....cmon veg state for 8 hrs??....and what flowering stage 20 min a day??

hell i wouldve been rich in my younger days....lol...anyways...didnt mean to call him out...and yes we should all be here to help.....

    time to enjoy a bowl!!!

  12. I understand what you meant, but I was answering his question.

I do agree with you however. OP many of the issues your having are easily answered after only a little reading. This is why it's best to start with free bag seed for your attempt.

If you get more light, fix your light schedule, and water only when the soil dries completely, you can at least give it a better beginning. If you follow our advice asap, she will be a healthy plant

  13. To everyone telling me to stop growing and that I haven't researched enough:

I started germinating my seeds a few days before I ordered my proper set up, and it has lead up to this. It should be arriving any day now and I should be able to recover. I DO know how much light is needed but as I said, it is has not been possible due to my current situation. I will start leaving the light on much longer starting today.

@BYOWeed, I am not sure of the wattage, it is one of those desk lights that are used for studying. I didn't bother to check as I knew it was not sufficient, I just used to in the meantime before my proper lights came. Also, thank you and everyone else who did not come on to me in an offensive manner. I did state in the OP that I have not been able to get the proper growing conditions because of certain situations, but that doesn't mean I don't know enough to grow.

  14. What lights are you getting?

Btw they're stretching from lack of light. You have the positioning down, but you'll need around 150actual watts to sustain two happy plants

It's is the exact light: http://i.imgur.com/tem0S.png

It says 23w = 120 watts, so I'm not sure if I'm getting 23 watts or 120

If its 120, it's still under your recommended wattage. Il order another one of these so I have two in the box when I get a bit more money. Would two of these be ok? Or would it give too much? Thanks

Edit: My current light is a fluorescent and it does get quite warm. You can feel warmth if you put your hand like 2-3 inches away. Would it be ok for the plants? It's just a slight warmth

  16. The higher number is the equivalent not actual wattage. You should look at the 40w actual bulbs. And you'll need 3-4 of the 40w bulbs. Have a fan blow on the plants and bulbs. The wind helps strengthen the stem and cool the bulbs

  17. I highly doubt I would be able to get that many into this PC grow box. Possibly in my next grow.

What would be the effects of using smaller wattage lights? Lets just use that one light I showed you for example. What would happen to the plants if I just used that? Thanks

  18. They'll stretch and fall over and die. Look into a 125w CFL

    Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002TJS7LE/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1354229989&sr=8-1&pi=SL75

    or

Those options are your best bet

  19. Had you bothered to mention any of that in your OP people probably wouldn't have been as hard on you. In any case, it would have been best to start your plants after you had the proper equipment and were in a situation where you could have the lights on for the appropriate amount of time.
