Strange crystalline lattice forming along the wall of my bong

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by Tikwid, May 27, 2009.

  1. OK this is gonna sound really strange, but there appears to be a a bizarre grid of almost perfect hexagons forming across the inner wall of my bong. i just have a standard little glass bong and I have literally never noticed this until today. It forms a ring around the water line and continues up for about 3 cm.
I'm just wondering what the fuck this grid is doing chilling in my bong? Normally I would just assume it was regular old bong grime buildup but as I explained this is a near perfect grid of hexagons.
Unfortunately I hav e no camera, but this is pretty much what it looks like:

My one theory is that it's some sort of crystallization or buildup from sugar or something since I sometimes use flavoured water in my bong. Except I thought flavoured water didn't have sugar, only aspartame? Hahaha

I feel bad washing it out with alcohol in case some sort of intelligent civilzation is thriving in my bong (haven't used it in about 2 weeks) but it had to be done!

Anyone else ever experience anything remotely like this?

  2. was your bong made in a factory? maybe it's just hard water stains taking the shape of miniscule markings left on the bong by some tool or something?

  3. My bong was factory made but it is really more like a membrane of some sort. Kind of like the consistancy of onion skin or something, but easier to tear apart. When I cleaned it it sloughed off the side in chunks large enough to maintain the hexagonal pattern. Pretty bizarre. I think I am gonna look at my bong under a microscope or something to see if there are tiny hexagons in it for some reason.
What kind of tools do they even use to make bongs in factories anyway?

  4. This.....

the membrane is growing on miniscule imperfections in the glass

  5. that sounds like you should REALLY clean your bong

  6. i attribute the crystal structure to the flavored water or whatever you used in it,

  7. I have cleaned it haha. I noticed it when I was changing the water and there were chunks of hexagons floating around in my toilet.

  8. maybe you pooped hexagons:p

  9. Dude why the hell are you letting your bong grow fucking membranes on the inside? Clean that shit more frequently. Ugh. You were inhaling smoke out of that.

  10. How hard is the water where you live? We have very hard water here (dissolved minerals in the water) and if glass isn't descaled regularly, it will build up to quite a substantial thickness. Do you have scale building up on glass shower screens and such at home? If it is indeed mineral scale, it can be cleaned without scrubbing, and scratching glass by getting citric acid from the supermarket, it's a powder form and very safe, its cheap and can be found near the baking soda. Dissolve some in warm water, as warm as you can handle with bare skin and use heaps of citric acid. Just soak the glass in it for a few hours and rinse. I use it to descale my espresso machine and its perfectly food safe, you can eat it in fact, although your lips will pucker up like a cats arse for a while.

  11. I haven't used my bong in weeks and I just noticed this today. This is a clear glass bong - I would have noticed it if they were there when I was smoking it. I did leave water in bong from the last time I used it.

Yeah well the water here is fine to drink from the tap, though I do have a filter on it anyway. Right now my suspicion lies with the flavoured water, but I have nothing to base that on whatsoever.

  12. have you tried feeling it with your hands?

  13. best bet, u have hard water. the opposites are crystals of calcium carbonate. a thin film of druse from u in the crystal know.

  14. ^^^^This is the best solution on here to get hard water stains/scale build up off your bong.
Im not really sure how or what is forming hexagons or whatever on your bong but next time GET SOMEONES CAMERA, that sounds like a sight to see.

Aussie you should use bottled water, or water that has been treated with reverse osmosis, my rents had an osmosis system and OHHH MANN WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN TASTE OF MY ESPRESSO/COFFEE. Try using water not from tap and you'll see what i mean, you're not using your espresso machine to its maximum potential ;)

  15. My girlfriend left her friends bong in her closet for a 2 or 3 months, and when I decided I wanted to use it, the same stuff came out. I filled it with water and let it soak, swirled, and dumped it in my sink. It seemed to me that it was some sort of algae, not hard water build up. It was a white-clearish gel form; like semen, but more clear. More towards the bottom, it was a reddish-orange tint.

  16. doooooood stop jerkin your gerkin into her bong. thats what her mouth is for.

  17. I use softened water, i prefer not to use RO because it fucks with the autofill sensor by taking out the salts, resulting in schetchy conductivity. Bottled water is a complete rip off, and basically is slightly filtered tap water. I certainly know my coffee equip and how to get the best out of it. When one buys a Giotto, it's because they seek the best. I also roast my own coffee, saves a fortune and means i always have freshly roasted coffee on tap. But i know what you mean, water is a large factor, mind you i think the grinder is more important than just about any other factor behind fresh coffee, when i got my Macap, the quality of my shots jumped measurably.

  18. use distilled water. there is nothing in it. and it tastes like nothing. i mean, granted, something flavored is nice time to time. just make sure you clean it really well.
