Strains with the strongest branches

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Snib247, Dec 28, 2019.

  1. What strains have your run with stronger branches? I've been running northern lights photos, and they aren't too bad till the very end. After they have flowered out fully there is always a few branches that hang down from the weight.

I just ran a gorilla glue auto, it's branches are super strong, no need to support. I might start running autos more if this is the case. I do use fans, and silica, but most photo strains I've tried end up with heavy flowers and weak branches.

So, do autoflowering strains typically have more strength in the branches?

What strains have you you really liked and had strong branches?

Any other tips aside using a net, or strings to hold them up when they become too weak?

I've ran northern lights quite a bit without that issue.

  3. Very insightful!

  4. Trained branches are strong branches. Topped plants also seem stronger that way.

  5. Sounds like you just need to do more plant training mate. Flat, even canopy of similarly sized buds should always do well.
Soon as branches start getting longer than average they become weaker.
Keep ur plants shorter and wider by using lst or a scrogg net and the woodwork will be more stable :)

  7. I include silica into my feed/water schedule from 2nd node to start of flower , builds nice hardy branches

  9. I currently have Himalaya Gold, Tutankhamen, and Monster Profit (Heavyweight Seeds) that all exhibit extensive side-branching on their own with little to no influence from the grower.

The GG4 pheno that I run at the shop also has very good side-branching.

That being said, These other guys are also correct in saying that some form of low stress training must be done in order to have stronger branches — supercropping, topping, tying down, etc. I actually use toothpicks because it’s faster and it gives me more control over the final shape of the plant when it gets really big.

After about 10 days, the toothpicks can be removed and the branches that you trained will stay in place. The plant will hold that shape permanently like this one.

The Sundae Banana Cookies (GreenPoint) I recently started has really good side branching.

I would also add that using a good silica product will encourage stronger branching and allow you to run much warmer temperatures in your garden. It also increases your plants’ ability to power through and recover from stress (from LST and other outside sources). I just picked up some Power Si the other day after using GH’s Armor Si for years. I’m excited about Power Si, but I really want to try Elite 91’s Silicic Acid. It is supposed to be pretty amazing stuff but it is also expensive.

  11. Thanks for all the input! @918AutoGrower i like that toothpick idea, genius.

I should of mentioned I do use silica, it has helped.

@Spanish@rcher I do top mine several times, I think I'm going to try and tie it down and sort of circle the pot.

  12. Aptus Nutrients Silica is supposed to be the best. I only used it in one run from their sample pack and they were nice and easy to train. I just can’t see spending that much on a bottle.
