I know there's a lot of these threads around, but I wanted to get more specific with it for my bong buying decision. I've narrowed it down to a few different bongs at my LHS, but I'm having trouble finalizing my decision. Sorry for starting a second thread on the first page but my last one got off-topic when I asked a new question and now consists of people insisting I order a bong online, when I have pretty solid local glass I can support local businesses with. Anyways: - 14" Hoss 9mm straight tube - 14" or 16" GEAR 5mm beaker - 16" GEAR 7mm bubble base w/ AC The Hoss is the most expensive at $300 but it is also far and away the highest quality piece glass blowing-wise. They are the only Canadian brand that could really hold it's own with the high quality smaller distribution scale blowers from the US that everyone here loves. The other two are both $225, and GEAR is no slouch but the joints aren't as well blown as Hoss pieces. Now obviously this sounds like I should immediately hop on the straight tube, right? My only worry is that I like taking big rips, and I'm concerned that a 14" straight tube won't get the job done for me, and the only larger straight tubes I've been able to find were significantly lower quality glass. As far as the other two go, the bubble base is weird, as the bubble itself is MASSIVE so the thing has huge capacity and a specially made downstem, with probably a 7-8" neck on it, but I'm concerned it'd have ridiculous drag. The beaker has always just been my preferred style of bong looks-wise and it has more capacity at a smaller size such as 14-16". Anyways sorry for rambling. TL;DR Buying a new bong (choices seen above), and I'm wondering if my first choice, a 14" Hoss 9mm straight tube, would have enough capacity to satisfy somebody who likes big, milky, cloudy-ass hits? Thanks!
ya dude you can get fat rips of that for sure I used to have a little 12 in.bong with a tree perc which took up more space in the tube and I could get fat lung destroying hits off that thing haha, and you could add an ashcatcher if you wanted even bigger hits too
I agree completely with Jeffy - I have a 14" tube w/ tree perc inside and a decent sized ashcatcher and I can get some decent sized hits off of it.
Sorry for trying to redirect you on the last thread just know there are a lot of good options for that price and hate for people to be tied down to what they see at home. That being said looks like you know why you want. I had a 14" straight tube and it provided great hits man. Milk I up and it should be more than enough smoke
You can take any size hits with whatever you buy. That hoss straight tube is an absurd price if you're speaking USD, but its definitely the most sturdy. If you're going to be spending that money though you should at least get something with more diffusion.
$300 for a 14 inch straight tube? What the hell? Your headshop is raping everyone who goes in there. I know you don't want to hear this but if thats what's local to you then you NEED to order online unless you want to settle with something worth half the price of what you're paying. If you're worried about supporting artists SSFG would make you a tube whatever height you'd like, and whatever size tubing you'd like, with a showerhead downstem, and a disk diffused slide, for less than any of the choices you listed. Or you could contact apix and get a stemline to disk for that much, whatever height you want.
As far as the price goes, it IS 9mm glass. I ended up getting it for $250 and they threw in a showerhead downstem after some very solid haggling on my part I'm glad to say the thing gives pretty huge rips compared to what I was expecting, and stays pretty smooth (tried the slit diffused downstem it came with originally and the difference was surprising). Had like 8 different people match up with me to try it yesterday, they all loved it. It feels pretty much unbreakable in all aspects. A friend of mine who owned a 16" Roor Lil Sista beaker, and currently has a 21" illadelph straight tube, said it was one of his favorite pieces he"s hit, so I think for me that gives it a pretty solid seal of approval.
I'm a bit late to this, but I wanted to say I got my Sovereignty 5mm stemline for $275 to retails for $350. It's 18-19" tall. Honestly, the glass is thick enough (I knocked it over and it slammed against the metal legs of my drum throne; can't even tell.. Never putting it on the floor next to my bed again) and it's smoother than any 9mm showerhead I've hit. I agree with some of the others... $300 sounds like a bit of a rip off. It's possibly the name, like ROOR, Pure, Illadelph... Just names, but they are severely behind on quality bongs today.
Old thread, but damn op got raped! Anything over 125 for a 14 inch hoss or gear shit is way too much.
Just my 2cents but beaker bottoms suck. We don't make them at all because we only believe in selling quality and durable pieces. Reason for not making them is because... We do have a repair side to our business and received one too many beaker bottoms with breaks.... you see, when you blow out the glass for the beaker bottom -- you are thinning out the glass. Stick with straight tubes as they will last you longer in the end.... too many stoney doodle friends knock those beakers "accidentally" against things. Plus.... straight tubes, imo, hit much better =)
