stove top decarboxylation?!

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by Cannabliss722, Aug 14, 2022.

  1. I've googled many things and just need advice from regular users.. I am no longer able to smoke as my asthma has gotten the best of me a few times, and ER trips aren't fun.. So I was thinking about fudge today, I have plenty of things to make it.. and a little stock pile of bud I have yet been brave enough to smoke. So this is all new to me, decarboxylation.. can I do it on the stove top? I can't have my house smell of bud.. or I would use the toaster oven or my air fryer (though I think the temp would be too high on it) I currently have a pot on my stove half-ish (maybe more) filled with water, with a mason jar carefully placed inside with what bud I have left inside. And I'm mildly freaking out.. I have it on low and am watching it. But is that too low, can the temp be too low? And how long am I'm going to have to stand here.. I guess I'm afraid.. one, that I'll ruin my stash.. and two, I swear if this jar explodes! Anxiety at its best.. ‍
Oh! Another question, what flavors would either complement the taste of cannabutter. Or I guess mask it, depends on how this whole adventure turns out. I have white chocolate, milk chocolate, and peanut butter. Also random things.. like vanilla extract & orange extract..
Anywayy thank you for your time in reading my rant, sorry ADHD my minds all over the place. ☺️

  2. Needs to be 240°-250° 30 to 40 minutes. Haven't seen it attempted on stove top let us know how it turns out.

  3. How do I know if I've done it right?

  4. Itll be brown some think it smells like roasted nuts not I but I've heard this several times. Itll just look like roasted bud not burnt or green

  5. Okayy.. so I did the decarboxylating process. I opened the jar and the smell was INTENSE. So I infused my butter & let it simmer for about 5 mins, if not longer. Strained it and immediately made fudge with it. I couldn't smell it as much mixed with the butter and that. But I did sample a tiny bit once I had it somewhat cooled and the taste is definitely there.. it is seriously so good. I had to stop myself from taking a few bites. As I don't know the exact science of dosing and all that. I'm definitely going to have to start off with small bits and see how I feel.

  6. Did you clarify butter?

  7. If you know thc% theres calculators online.

  8. If you must use the sealed jar method then the oven is the best choice.
Use a real mason jar as they are usually a bit more resistant to cracking then say any old jar you have laying around.

Place thumb size or smaller nugs in sealed jar. Place jar in cold oven. Turn on oven to 240 F and time it 60 minutes. Turn off oven and let cool down before removing jar to avoid thermal shock shattering the jar. This will also limit smell as opening the hot jar will fill the house with aroma.

Remember with edible Cannabis oil a tiny bit goes a long ways. Each gram contains about 150mg of THC or 15 doses if you use the 10 milligrams per single edible limit most states now use.

A pinky fingernail is 1/3 of a gram or about 50 milligrams of THC.
A thumbnail is about a gram or 150mg of THC.

Butter and all other cooking oils except 1 take a full 2 hours to get going. Only Coconut Oil works in less then half that time. 45 minutes usually. Make your canna oil with coconut oil then add that to your butter based brownies / cookies / foods.

If you know how much Cannabis went in then figuring the dose is basic math. Divide amount of Cannabis into servings.
5 grams of cannabis for example @ 15% is 750 milligrams of THC.
Cut into 75 pieces for a 10 mg serving.
    30 pieces will be a 25mg serving.

  10. Oh shit... No should I have?

  11. Well shitt.. LOL these are about to be potent AF

  12. How to find out what you've made dose wise.

Cut sheet of brownies into smaller squares then you think they should be then cut that into half or quarters again.
Start early as this might take all day.

    Take 10mg
    Wait 2 full hours.
    If not stoned
    Take 20mg more
    Wait an additional 2 hours
    If not stoned
    Take 40mg more
    Wait
    If not

Keep doubling and waiting between until your launched. Keep track of how much was used and plan your next days dose accordingly. It won't take long to learn what is good dose and what is a bit to much.

If you always make the same oil recipe you'll know what to expect and not get many surprises.

  13. Will do. Thank you so much for you're help.

  14. YES! Two good ways I use is:
First: The oven temp doesn't hold consistant enough in most stoves. The answer the temp control is "mass". I keep two large cast iron skillets in the oven to hold heat. Use an oven therm to check temp. Preheat a quart mason jar TO TEMP. It takes a long time to heat a jar with a lid. The lid needs a hole for a meat thermo. At this point work fast so as not to lose heat. Put the pot in, cap it, stick the meat therm in the lid and bake. It also helps to preserve the turps. Bake. This is a good way.

Second: In a large pot (remember mass to the key to temp control) fill with enough OIL to be above the level of the MJ in the jar (mineral oil is the best, veg oil is messy). Hang one thermonitor in the oil and the meat thermonitor thru the lid.

Be sure to use OIL AND NOT WATER. Water will leave you 30F degree too cold.

  15. I tried to upload pictures of my setup but they wouldn't go. I just use a large pot witg a glass lid (just to see the thermo in the jar).

Make sure everything is pre heated or you'll find yourself playing "yoyo" with your burners.

  16. Yeah I made sure to boil them simmer for a long while. Seems to have worked.. the fugde itself turned out really fucking good, added butterfly sprinkles just because.
