storing trim

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by SuperSilverDaze, Oct 22, 2012.

  1. Ok, so one of my dealers gave me this big bag of trim cause he was gonna just toss it anyway and I've been keeping it in the little drawer in the fridge(the one for vegetables or whatever). I'm only making edibles with it cause most edibles I get at clubs don't work for me and my friends use their trim for bubble hash and bho so I don't need that stuff.

Ok, so I made some butter the other night using roughly 50 grams of this stuff but I still have a huge bag of it. (The guy who gave it to me told me to smoke it...I'm not gonna do that...) So, the past few days I've been grinding it up cause that's how I do my recipe, buuuuut as I sit here with a pile in front of me I seem to remember one of my buddies telling me that storing ground weed for a period of time will make it lose potency. We were talking about actual bud though, not trim.

Now here's my question. Does it matter? I do notice kief on the sides of the bags with the ground stuff in it or is that mainly more plant matter? The first batch of butter I just ground everything into a bowl and made it immediately. Is it better for me to grind it when I'm about to make it? It's just if I do it that way it takes me a few more hours cause I have a tiny grinder. That's kinda why I've been doing it just whenever I have free time. Anyway, that's it I guess. Any help is much appreciated.

  2. surface area dude, the more grinded the better almost every scenario I would say.

Also, if all the trimmings are completely dry, put it in a glass jar.

potency goes down if its just out in contact with air.

  3. Oh, I know that if it's ground it'll produce a better end product. My question is if storing it ground will affect potency at all. I didn't even think of the mason jar though, thanks for mentioning it. I just had it in ziplocs.

Store it in your freezer. Use a vacuum bag, Ziploc, Seal a Meal, etc, and make several airtight packages for individual batches. Just put your normal quantity for a recipe in each bag and seal. That way, you're not handling all your trim each time you make something. Handling it causes it to break down and deteriorate faster. Even if you don't freeze it, putting in serving size bags or containers will keep your weed fresher. If you keep it in the refrigerator or room temp, take it out of plastic bags for long term storage so that mold doesn't form. Use a tightly sealed tupperware container. :)

Also, don't grind until you're ready to cook.

  5. I would agree ^

  6. yo. i started saving up my stems a couple weeks ago along with a little bit of shake. Is it possible to make decent quality cookies/brownies with stems?
