Storage Question

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Guybrush Threepwood, Apr 22, 2023.

  1. I like a good sativa and have several strains on hand; Golden Goat, Green Crack, Super Lemon Haze, to name a few. Long term storage has become an issue.

I read somewhere on here that the drying / curing process used by commercial growers ..... leaves much to be desired.

When I get home from the dispensary I put my stuff in Mason jars that hold about 1/2 oz, label the strain, date, and potency, and put them in a drawer. Twice a day for a month I gently bump and burp them for about 20 minutes. (This is in my unheated basement with a dehumidifier set at 40%) Then I put in one of those humidity control packs (55%) in the jar and it stays in the drawer with the rest of my stash. Dark, dry, cool.

It's getting warmer now and I'm thinking about getting one of those mini-refrigerators. However I read that you shouldn't keep your stuff in the fridge because of condensation. But after going through all at above would there really be a condensation problem?

    Thanks,
    GT

  3. the 55% packs are for cigars get you some 62% skip the burping put directly in jars store in a dark cool place should be good for a year

  4. Buy a used wine fridge and add a hydrometer, in truth weed from a dispensary should already be cured,
either way a fridge tho very dry is best for long time storage I freeze once cured, in years I've not lost any quality thru freezing, and then thaw in a fridge

    good luck

  5. Great game to play while blazed.

  6. I can see that, I've always been partial to the civilization series who stoned, total war games are also decent while high (for me at least).

On topic I agree with the others, after I've harvested and dried my buds for about a week, I throw about 30-35 grams per quart mason jar, a boveda 63% pack, and store it somewhere dark and cool (like 60-70F) and it will still be good up to 18 months+ around the 2 year mark though mine starts to lose potency (at least noticeably, but I seldom have un-smoked buds that long)

  7. Maybe I mis-read it but I thought that 70° was what you absolutely wanted to stay under, and my basement will go to 75 or so on hot summer days.

I go through the burping because I read here that most commercial growers just barely do the absolute minimum drying / curing process. But like this Golden Goat (28.3% THC) I just got last weekend (4/15) says Harvest Date 12/27/2022 and Test Date 1/9/2023 so it's been sitting somewhere all this time.

  8. 1/2 oz of buds fills my Mason jars to about 1/2" from the top. The Integra "Boost" says it's a "2-Way Humidity Control", so shouldn't it maintain its rated humidity (I already have the 55%) in a tightly sealed Mason jar?

    Thanks,
    GT

  9. IMO never fill the jar go 2/3rds allow some air in to do the work

I fell for this years back ...went out and got much bigger jars

    cheers

  10. Yeah definitely don’t want mold showing up , more air the better??
I don’t think I even have enough to be worth buying humidity packs , low low low .
