Stoners, Would You Consider Yourselves A Sub Culture?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Nyxierawr, May 21, 2013.

  1. I'm just curious I think I may be able to use this in one of my courses. As for my class (I'm in college) for this class sun cultures definition is this: a social group of people that all have something in common with one another. They exhibit characteristic patterns of behavior strongly enough for others to seperate it from others.
Personally, I believe it is and I feel like I'm part of another family as a stoner.

(Please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum and if possible if a mod sees this put it in the right forum)

  2. It is absolutely a subculture. Stoners exhibit patterns of behaviour shared between the subsection of society who choose to smoke weed. Prove that stoners have common habits and you prove that it is a subculture.

  3. True. But I kind of would like to include some stoners others personal opinions how if they would or wouldn't identify themself as part of the sub culture for whatever reasons

  4. Yeah it's definitely a subculture that I have been part of for five years now.  I didn't smoke at all in high school, I was initiated into marijuana use the summer I graduated and since then pretty much all of the friendships I've made as an adult have been focused around weed one way or another.

But then it may be possible to separate the subculture into two main classes, one being of people who have a medical condition that they treat with marijuana and when they use they are "medicating".  The other class is of people who use it as an intoxicant usually for recreational purposes.  Also you could further subdivide into people who use it regularly on a daily or almost daily basis, and people who only use it periodically.

  5. Yea it's a subculture. However it's starting to get way more popular and more "mainstream" if you know what I mean.

  6. Yeah people are more accepting of it and it's kinda like the new thing to do
