Stealth advise?

Discussion in 'Indoor Cannabis Growing' started by JadeNirvana, Apr 23, 2007.

  1. My husband and I started our process of growing in our closet. There are many factors that seem to make this difficult for us. First we live in a really big city, also its an apartment building with nothing but drywall. The whole building knew we smoked untill we opened both bedroom windows with a fan blowing out the window closest to us. We need help to make a stealth ventelation system. Neighbors have already theaten to call the cops on us prior to the make shift vent system for smoking, but they havent said anything as of lately. Im more concered with the smell. We plan to only really keep one single plant. any advice?

  2. carbon filters work quite well. i've got one plant in the closet with a lower-end carbon filter going 24/7 and the smell is hardly noticeable in the apt (and easily covered with a candle). buying a decent carbon filter ought to rid all smells from one plant without any trouble. hope that helps.

  3. Carbon Scrubber and ONA Odor Neutraliziing Agent.

Also rig an exhaust to run out your window (dryer vent tube glued/duct taped to a block of wood with a hole where the other end goes so you can keep your window closed and save on your AC costs $$).

You should be good with that. Also the carbon scrubber works great indoors with smoke.

  4. Kool, thanks gang for the advise. we'll keep posting and updating

  5. If they threatened to call the cops once, they probably did already. Cops don't just run right over because someone calls them and tells them your smoking a little weed. That doesn't mean they won't keep an eye on you though. I would find a new apartment, house, or duplex. Sounds like you have some nosy neighbors, and if they get suspicious, they will call the cops again.
Move, Move, Move! You can hide the smell all you want. People have given you good advice above, but I wouldn't do anything in that apartment building. Not with those neighbors.
It would really suck to get a nice set up going, have some beautiful plants in flower, harvest them, then the cops come kicking down your door.
I moved from my old neighborhood. I lost over $5000 to make the move. The piece of mind was worth every penny.

  6. I would move too I had friends that had parties smoking blunts in an apartment and everybody could smell it, no cops were called as far as they knew then one of the residents came home that I was with and told her that her childs seatbelt was unbuckled and started chewing her out about it it was an undercover! What an idiot I narced on him lol.

  7. we would love to move, unfortunately right now thats not possible. Money is very tight (partly the reason I started growing) between school expenses and a VERY high cost of living, we just cant afford it. I have begun making a homemade carbon filter based on an exellent post from cannabus culture. (I cant find the link, but I have the post saved and could re-post it if anyone would find it helpful.)
Question: does the filter go at the outer end of the vent tube or directly in front of the fan right outside the grow box?

  8. You're going to want the carbon filter at the end of your plumbing run, as the air will need to be forced through it once it's out of the room. I guess you could have the carbon fiter inside the room and have the fan sucking through it before exhausting somewhere, I don't know. Seems backwards to me...

  9. get a decent sized carbon filter, i live in a city as well and live in a unit and my filter eliminates the smell from four plants. i also make sure i put down a towel or something along the bottom the front door so no smell can escape that way but my neighbours are cool and one of them even smokes with me every now and then. burn incense too, it masks the smell and its nice :)

  10. It is easier to pull air through a filter than it is to push the air through it.

  11. Thank you chimera. I have read many of your posts and have great respect for your opinion. I will put the filter inside the grow box on the intake side of the fan before the air is pushed out of the entire setup.

Thank everyone!! Your advice has been very helpful.

  12. Good luck with this, sounds like you have your work cut out for you. One last thing. If you have doors or something to provide access to your grow area, you may want to add weather-stripping to them, because light tends to peek out. If a friend / neighbor comes over, sees the light, they'll instantly know what's going on.

  13. I have read that you can make a deodorizer in a 5 gallon bucket, put some fabric softner in it and water with a air pump and stone... I havent tried it but its suppossed to cover almost anything.... Gluck
