Unfortunately it is. I'm spending an hour every morning and an hour every evening inspecting and removing eggs. I set up a 40w bug zapper about 50 ft away around the corner and there is a big pile of dead moths every morning. I take the air compressor nozzle and blast them off into the woods. It's an endless supply of them. So far I've found one caterpillar and he was tiny. I have Bt on hand and will start spraying if I find more cats. I hate those bastards.
What is Bt? Edit, I got some on the way. I’ve read a lot of your posts @old bser and figured I’d go ahead with it. Thanks
I've had so many ways to ruin a crop I started studying and fighting back. I've tried the nematodes and predators but where I am they burn up. I have too many termites and gophers in the ground so went to large containers. That helps keep a lot of bugs off them and I can still move them if needed. The Bt works like magic but I almost puke at the smell. I will use it in early flower only and even then I try to hold off using it till I see definite damage. If you've ever lost most of an entire crop you try to stay ahead of the bugs.
I’ve already had cutworms to set my tomatoes back for weeks. There’s always something to worry about I guess. I’m glad that you mentioned this.
