Starting out first perpetual grow

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by FLOWIN, Dec 13, 2012.

  1. Hello all. Its been awesome reading and learning from all of you that have given advice on GC. I am starting this journal for somewhat to keep me on track and in the hopes of you all giving me advice along the way. Thanks in advance for your input.

My vegetative grow area is a 6' x 6' floor space with a height of 6' on one end and tapers down to 3' on the other end. It is built in an attic space as why the roof tapers. The walls are made of 1"styrofoam insulation with a mylar type finish. Lighting is a T8 4 bulb lamp for the seedlings and starters and then move them to a 400 watt hid after first transplant in same room. Air will be a 6"inline 460cfm fan. Will also duct to the home heating and air conditioning to keep temps more stable during cold and hot times of year(work in progress on this).(Still need to instal hid light and air in this room)

The flower room is a 4' x 12' floor space with a 6' height in middle and tapers down to 3' on the ends. My plan is to use 2 400watt HPS lights and a higher cfm inline fan. This room too will be ducted to the central air. (The flower room the walls are 70% up and still need to instal fans and lights but have some time.)

My first batch of plants is 10 Larry OG plants that I got from my herbal hookup and I started them on Dec 5. I germinated seed via paper towel and after sprout planted in a starter that came with a humitidy dome plant starter kit. They shot up to about 3 inches but only one set of little leaves. (Here comes my first screw up). They were so tall due to I think cause I had too far from light that I thought it was time to transplant and not read up first. I planted them in FFOF but not sure if the roots were developed enough. We will see what happens... a few got droopy on me about 4 hours later. My next batch once the Larry OG strain get moved over to the hid light will be 5 seeds of Blackberry Kush then folowed by Super skunk.

Any input or advice is greatly apreciated.

Pics are of the Veg room. I will have pics of the flower room later this week.

  2. Also am having a little trouble getting the humidity up. Gonna play with a few things tomorrow to try to get it up. If I cant then I will purchase a humidifier.

  3. Hello all. Received my 400watt hid today and my blower fan which I installed.:hello: Will do the duct to the fan tomorrow. Is it better to mount the ballast to the light outside of room or inside? The room is looking pretty depressing looking so empty.:( I plan on moving the seedlings under the 400 MH light from the T8 in about a week when they grow a little bit.... Unless you guys think I should do it now. Here is pics of the almost finished room.

  4. Also here are some pics of the Larry OG strain I have under the T8. They sprouted on the 6th and kinda look small to me but what do I know. Also one of them sprouted but the leaves never opened up. It looks like they are sealed shut where the seed shell was. Should I do something about it or just leave it be?

Got my batch of Super Skunk seeds come in today which will be the next ones to go under the T8

  5. DAY 12

Got the room fully setup with the ducting, oscilating fan, 400 watt
MH, humidifier, and a controler for the air duct fan to regulate temps.

I moved my 10 Larry OG plants under the mh light to make room for 10 Super Skunk I got from Dutch Seed shop. but after about 4 days 0 out of 10 germinated. Not sure if it was something I did wrong or I got crap seeds. I did rush them out of the paper towel and put them in the starter pots even before i saw a tap root. Thought they would finish germinating in the starter. After 4 days I dug them out and no root whatsoever visible. I put them back into wet paper towel just in case they will sprout but not holding my breath so I put 10 more seeds in paper. Attached are pics of room and my biggest young one.

    DAY 20

Hello All, hope you had a great Christmas. I sure did.

Ist batch Larry OG are growing at a really good pace. Still no nutes. My humidifier crapped out on me while I was gone for a couple days and humidity was in the mid 30s for about two days. One plant is having some issues. It has yellowing/light green on the edge of the leaves. Is this nute deficiency? Or maybe due to the low humidity? Problem plant is third pic. Also my runoff ph has been around 6.4

  7. Also forgot to mention. 0 out of 40 seeds of Super Skunk I got from Dutch Seed Seed shop germinated. What a freaking ripoff company. I ended up putting the remainder 12 seeds of my Larry Og in starters and 8 of the 12 have already broke ground and sprouted within a couple days.

    DAY 22

    Hello All,

Plants are doing pretty good. Been having some low ph issues (Thanks to aj69420g for pointing it out). Picture #3 is the plant that is suspected of having ph lockout. Also alot of twisting of the leaves on other plants. I flushed the soil with 7.3ph water and got my runoff to 6.5-6.6. Gonna try to get it a tad bit higher on the next watering. Otherwise the plants are growing at a really good rate everyday. I'm starting to be able to smell them everytime I go in the room. Right now they are on 24hr light cycle but will start to wien them off with one hour less every couple days till I get to 18. Not doing it all at once cause not sure what the temps will do while all off. Gonna top them after I get my ph in check.
My next batch of Larry OG sprouts are doing good under the flourecents. 10 out of 12 are sprouted and some got their first set of true leaves. The last two are just about to break ground.

Im loving the process of my first grow. It is exciting everytime I go in and see their progress. Thanks to all who are watching.

  9. What Dutch seed shop? Or was that its name

  10. That was their name. Shoudlve knew they werent good quality when they were cheaper than most at $30 plus shipping for 20 seeds and then they actually sent 40 seeds. Out of the 40 only like 8 even opened up and of those 8 they wouldnt grow in the plant starters. Ended up just using the seeds from my local guy and almost all sprouted within days.

  11. DAY 25

Saturday morning I gave them another watering and got the PH to 6.7-6.8. Some of the lower leaves had some browning spots due to I think the ph lockout. I was away for the weekend and this morning seen them since. No more browning than what was there on Saturday. The leaves are still very twisty but alot of new growth since then. Also the plant with the yellowing edges seem to have the yellow dissapearing. Gonna wait another node then will top.
Transplanted the next batch of Larry OG into Fox Farms soil due to I was having trouble keeping starters foam material moist due to where oscilating fan is. Hopefully they dont get burned by the soil. This batch will stay under the flourescents till I move the first batch in the flower room.

P.S. Smells damn good in there too.

  12. I think that ph is good it looks more like the spots are from water on the leaves when the lights are on it can burn if too close or metal lights

  13. Sexy little plants keep up the good work this is fun to watch

  14. Thank you. Very fun to grow too. I moved the lights up a few inches. Any ideas on the twisty leaves or just dont worry about them since good growth?

  15. They look normal to me it happens don't worry at first I though u meant curling that's bad

    DAY 27

    Hello All,
Plants are growing like crazy. No more new spotting or browning since I fixed my ph issues. The leaves in most plants still are twisty and one of the plant's the edges are curling down and in and feel really dry. I lowered my oscillating fan speed a bit thinking its maybe drying out the leaves faster than the roots can bring up moisture. I also have big moisture swings from 35% to 84% due to when the inline fan kicks on to cool the room it sucks out all moisture as well then the humidifier brings it back up once it is off. This cycle happens once or twice about every hour. Not sure how to fix that.
I watered today and the ph runoff is 6.8-6.9 on all plants. I also misted the leaves with carbonated water in hopes of getting moisture in the leaves and a little extra co2. Still no topping yet, they are on their fifth node and am gonna wait one or two more nodes. They are growing bushy as it is. No preflowers or nut sacks as of yet and am chomping at the bit to see which are keepers or not. I will be moving the first batch into the flower room to make room for the 2nd batch of Larry OG under the MH. Gonna keep the First batch under veg even though in flower room until preflowers show and will get them started under scrog. Still no nutes but will try to give them some at 1/4 strength on next watering and see what happens

My second batch Larry OG are looking good and some are showing 2nd set of leaves. A couple fave a bit of nute burn from me putting them in FFOF soil so early but I did the same with first batch and they turned out good.

Also will be piping central heat/ac pipes into the grow rooms this week so to keep temps more steady during lights off. Thank all who are watching:wave:

  17. DAY 30

    Hello All,

The babies are growing really nice. Really bushy. No new issues with the plants since I got my ph in check. One plant is alot lighter than the rest but its always been that way and it still grows at same pace as rest. I made an attempt at a FIM on one of the plants even though its only 5 nodes high. Just want to see what happens. Rest will wait till after 7 nodes unless good result in the next couple days with first one. I also did their first nute feeding at 1/4 strength with Fox Farm Grow Big this morning.

My 2ND batch of Larry OG seedlings are doing ok. A little nute burn on some of them from the FFOF soil I transplanted into. Lesson learned, next time im gonna cut the FFOF soil with some coco for its first transplant from starter. Otherwise new growth looks ok. Gonna move them under MH in about 3 days once I make room.

    Attached Files:

  18. Also got my flower room almost complete. Still have to attach the air scrubber to the exhaust fan, run the electrical cords and connect a duct to central air on house to keep temps stable during lights off. The room is 4' x 12'. I have an oscilating fan on both ends of the room. 2 400 watt lights but might upgrade to 600s or will get some 250s to supplement. We will see.

  19. DAY 32

    Hello All,

Babies are doing great. After their first feeding no nute burn. They grew so fast the last couple days that one reached high enough to get a little light burn on one leaf before I can move the lights up. My FIM attempt I did a couple days ago didnt work. Must not have cut low enough. Picture one is new growth at FIM site and pic 2 is where I cut it lower. Still gonna wait a little to top the rest. Still unsure when I will put into flower, gonna have to wing that one.

The second batch is doing good too. A couple are slow growers and look weak but am not giving up on them.
