Starting grow in garage closet

  1. I live in Colorado and my wife and I feel like it's part of our civic duty to grow now since it's totally legal here. :hello:
We've got a 6x6 closet in my garage that I want to turn into a grow room. The garage is not temperature controlled, and temperatures can range from 30s in the winter up to 100 in the summer. The other side of the back wall in the closet is the inside of the house, and there is an attic above the closet. Has anyone set up a grow in this kind of situation? Any advice on how to control the temperature in the winter and summer? Also, has anyone tried venting into an attic, or does it really need to lead outside? Never done anything like this before so appreciate any ideas and advice.

  2. I built a large utility cabinet (48"x30"x84") and have it in my garage. I use an AC unit originally designed for dog houses (made by ClimateRight) that vents into the garage. I've been using this setup for over a year with no problems. The smell is pretty strong since the cabinet recirculates air, but I have a few ONA breeze setups and a homemade carbon filter on the return for the AC unit to help. I use a HydroGrow 126X-PRO LED for lighting to reduce the amount of heat. I can't stress enough how much I love this light. I added four 24" T8 lamps to help with side lighting and a wireless IP camera so I can check on the girls whenever I want (the infrared ability comes in handy during dark hours). If you have any questions, let me know...I'm sure I forgot something.

  3. An AC unit for a doghouse, that's awesome!! You pumped the AC into the whole garage, not just the cabinet? How do you keep the cabinet warm inside during the winter?
How much did the wireless IP camera cost? That's a great idea to have that. Can you watch the live video from anwhere on the internet then, or do you have to be within a certain range?

Thanks for all the info and the picture. We're totally in the 1st stages of just researching, so we really appreciate advice from someone who's got some experience.

  4. The AC unit has two hoses (one for supply, one for return)...you can sort of see them in the picture. The AC unit automatically switches to heat when it gets cold. You basically set the temperature and the AC unit keeps it at the correct temp. The discharge from the AC unit is vented into the garage.

The IP camera was around $80 on Amazon. You can set it up to view from anywhere, but for security reasons I only have it on my local network.
