Hi, i'm starting a small closet (two plant?) grow soon and i need some help. I have a cfl light setup with four 75 watt bulbs, and eight 50 watt bulbs. There's a daylight set of bulbs for veg and a soft white set for flowering. I'm most likely going to use miracle grow organic soil with 10-20% perlite. I'm going to use 3 gallon pots to grow the plants in. I'm chaining the lights up so I can suspend them a 2-4" above the plants. The closet's about eight feet wide so there is definitely enough room, and the walls are matte white. I have carpet on the bottom of the closet floor-should I cover it with plastic or something? I need help on nutrients, I really don't know what to do. I also am not sure about ventilation- I have some regular big house fans, but I don't know if using those on low a few times a day will work or not. Please help
First of all, Good luck. Growing is an amazing/fun hobby with great rewards. A few things to keep in mind, Keep everything simple, and sometimes taking the cheaper route will cost you in the long run. I'm assuming the lights are 75w equivillent check the actual watts, and try and get at least 100 w for your first plant and 50 for each plant after. i'd stay away from miracle grow...It has the time released ferts that will give your plant random bursts of nutes that you cant control. try and find a place that sells fox farms soil, If you go here FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company you can find the closest place that sells fox farms. Try and start your plants in those red party cups or a small starter pot, because it will help your plant grow a stronger root system opposed to just starting it in the 3 gallon pot. For ventilation you will probably need an exhaust and a passive intake, but you do need an oscillating fan thats on your plants, it will cool your space/ strengthen the stems on your plant. Invest in a good carbon filter, there's a couple DIY filters in the diy section of this forum. Cannibas plants stink and a filter could be the deciding factor of getting busted or not. Have fun
I've grown outdoors, but never inside. I'm excited! I'll update on the light wattage when I look at them. I was going to start the plants in those little peat cups that you can plant in big planters, but do cups work better. I don't really know how to word this, but how strong should the fan on the plants be, and how long should it run a day? I'll look into making a carbon filter. I'm growing in a house where the residents don't mind, so the only way I could get caught by odor is if you can smell it outside on the street (I'm growing on a second story floor). Should I leave my closet doors open at all or always leave them shut when I'm not tending the plants? Thanks for the help
I'm not sure if they're better or not, i wouldn't think so. But the only time i used one of those peat pots, it got moldy Dont have it on a ridiculous setting lol. low would be fine, or a higher setting but farther away. You don't want too muchwind on your plant. As for the door, just leave it closed, But open it a lot so your plants can get fresh air
to keep your floor dry i used a piece of rubber floor pan shower liner home depot will cut you a selected length off the rool make shure it is 6- 12" bigger than the floor so you can fold the extra up the wall creating a pan using i 1x2 peice of wood acrost the door opening
