Starting container too small?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by NewbieGrowerBuck, Feb 18, 2019.

  1. I cut off the top of a water bottle to start my auto in and I have a three gallon bucket for it's final container. I'm not expecting much but Is the bottle too small?

  2. It will do until you move it to the 3 gallon :)

  3. I’ve started stuff in one or 2 ounce little square plastic pots. With that being said. Make sure u don’t stress it on transfer. Bottles like that are a bitch to get your plant out of because the ripples on the side hold the soil and plant in. you almost got to cut it down the side but then you have to be super fucking careful not to cut the roots

  4. Generally, starting a plant in this size of container and then transplanting at a later point in life is fine, however, autoflowers are a bit different. Ideally, autoflowers should be started in the container that they'll grow in until you chop them because they live a limited life, in terms of timeline. With photosensitive plants, you can extend your veg time to compensate for the stress. If you delay the timeline for transplanting (or high stress training, like topping), you can stunt the overall growth (and overall yield) of your plant.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, however, as soon as you feel you're able to transplant, I'd recommend doing so.

    Just my 2¢. Happy growing!

  5. Moving forward, just start your auto in the same pot mate
    Just go easy on watering...…
They do recover but are stressed easily and they are on an internal timer for flower... So any kind of stress/slow growth is best avoided, as it will effect your overall yield.
My autos below were started in the same pot (5 weeks into flower).. Less stress the better

  6. For 69 cents the local hydroponic store has 3x3x3 inch cups that are just perfect to plant in. And when it come time to transplant it slides right out.

Your going to have to cut that bottle top off the plant in small pieces and even then I'll bet you hack some roots and shock the plant.
The smaller it is like now the less it'll shock it.
