That's great stuff I wish I could blow glass. Do you do it as a hobby or as a profession? Also how long have you been at it?
thanks dude! i love glass its my life now...well besides my wife and kid lol they gotta come first thanks dude..start of cost your lookin at, at least 1200...you can buy kits with everything you need besides glass for cheaper, i pieced everything out.. you can get a torch anywhere from 165$ (gtt cricket) or the gtt cheetah (the smaller of the 2 torches pictured for 500) the gtt phantom i have now was 1200$... glass is pretty cheap..clear glass that is.. color rods are kinda pricy but go a long way..ive been using a fiber blanket to cool my glass and thats dirt cheap but youll definitely want to be able to get a kiln to anneal the glass...and those are pretty much priced like the torches the bigger you go the more money you spend... as for putting the color on the glass..like the blue, white and orange pipe i put up.. it started as a clear tube about a 4" piece and i stripe the color on it with color rods, melt it in and twist it up.... all the pipes pictured are colored on the surface of the glass..if you want inside out pipes you draw your lines on the inside of the glass tube and condense it which will give it its 3d look.... most pendants are done on glass rods but some are done on tube like the black and white wigwaged on is done on tube.. i hope i answered your questions...if you have anything else youd like to know just ask id be happy to try and answer.. peace
i guess you can say its a hobby right now since im still learning..i havent perfected everything yet but ive been laid off so i guess its becoming a profession lil by lil
I'm jealous man... I'm waiting for the day I buy my kit and set up a studio. I wanna go big. Luke Wilson big if possible.
ya that dude is awesome! he proly has like 10+ years under his belt though lol...i havent even got 3 months in lol
haha, All it takes is time and practice. I think lampworking/glassblowing pipes/bongs would be my favorite activity I could ever think of doing. I'd sit around all day and get better and better.
thanks! heres another chillum i did today..i had another one but the bowl cracked in half before i can put it in the blanket i used NS Onyn and NS amber purple
That must be really exciting, the work got exponentially better as I went down. Some of the stuff near the bottom looks great, almost at the level of random China blown spoons and such. For three months of practice, that is fantastic. I can only imagine the kind of work you'll be doing in six months! Keep it up!
Nice work, my buddy blows glass down the road too, i definitely wouldn't mind trying it out, he has already fixed a couple of my pieces.
