Net neutrality keeps the internet public if done away with the internet shall be partitioned and sold to major corporations who will then have the power to control all aspects of the internet. watch this: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWt0XUocViE&feature=related"]YouTube- Save the Internet![/ame] then go to this website and support net neutrality!: <a href="Save the Internet | Join the fight for Internet Freedom target="_blank">Save the Internet | Join the fight for Internet Freedom for example this site would likely go down or have it's viewer base mostly if not totally wiped out, due to its' "relation to illicit drugs."

  2. 1)Is there a problem that actually needs fixing?
    2) If nothing is done what will happen?
    3) How is giving the government TOTAL CONTROL OF THE INTERNET resolve the problem of people taking over the internet?

  3. It's based in Holland where weed is not illegal:D

  4. The point the video seemed to be making was to get government to legislate for neutrality, not the giving or taking of control.

A pay to use system would effectively make areas of the internet 'owned' and possibly restirict access to information (based on connection speed and rights to use.)

  5. if theres universal healthcare why not universal information, everyone is granted right to free internet.

if only someone could be trusted to regulate it.

  6. I think the internet is fine as it is... all of us should agree on that, because imagine if weed forums were made illegal? ;)

Why do we need to impose more regulations on something that already functions well as it is? The internet is the largest threat to government because they operate under completely different principles.

    Internet = freedom
    Government = enslavement

Think about how valuable the internet is before you decide you want to throw it away.

  7. I was online before about 95% of people. I can remember what the Internet was like before everyone was on it. Most people only began to discover the Internet when speeds rose, prices fell and it became practical and now everyone and everything is online.

If the government does anything to raise the cost or to really throttle information online then the Internet as we know it will no longer be the Internet. It will likely go back to being useful only to a handful of geeks and the military.

That would truly suck, but on the bright side privacy would increase.

It would more than likely turn into an equivalent of what the mainstream media is to TV. Imagine if you had to file for a permit to have a website on the internet, or you couldn't find any websites with any negative opinions about the government... or if all of the "entertainment" sites on the internet were that of TV Channels...

It's scary just to think about it.

It's even scarier knowing it's real.

    And so on...

  9. The internet's only successful and affordable because it's controlled by the private sector. Right? Technically your Internet Service Provider could censor and filter websites and content, if it wanted to. You could see in the Terms of Service. That company wouldn't last though. Everyone would "vote" agaisnt it through their wallet. If there was a market for pre-censored internet, then the product would/will be available. The government giving subsidies to monopolize the industry to only a select few companies is no better than the government having complete control. Leave existing capitolism alone!

  10. I just love how Orwellian this leftist power grab is.

"Greater government control of the internet IS greater freedom!"

"The internet needs to be made FAIR. The government will ensure the content is FAIR! True openness and FAIRNESS on the internet is only possible when the government controls the content to ensure fairness!"

Openeness and Freedom= Government censoring. And they say it with a straight face.

    So Orwellian it isn't funny.

  11. The internet was conceived within the confines of the government. The free market made it what it is today. If it was up to the government, it would have never hit the market to begin with... at least not the way it did in reality. Imagine what else the free market could not only successfully 'regulate', but also evolve...

  12. R u cereal? I thought Al Gore invented the internet?

All jokes aside, I think that, if the internet gets hijacked, it's time for chaos and revolt. Currently, the internet represents the first amendment... anyone can talk about whatever politics, religion, and anything else they want, but with any kind of governing involved in the internet, it's going to cause more problems than solutions.... partially because there is no solution right now, because we have no problem.

The internet is just dandy the way it is right now. I like free porn and free movies, but most importantly, I like how the internet allows individuals to communicate whatever information they want to each other. Freedom of information at its best.

It will be a sad day for humanity when the internet as we know it ends... :(

  13. I for one would revolt in the name of the internet.

This whole net neutrality issue has been scaring the shit out of me for 3 years.

  14. Yay for net neutrality!!! Come on you guys, don't you think the Government needs to make sure there aren't boobies, or recipes for hashish on the internet? Yay for Socialism!!! We need to be more like China you guys!

  15. Everyone in the world who uses internet would get pissed as fuck. If they did this, nerd militant groups would start bombing the corporations haha.

  16. How is this socialism if PRIVATE companies would control the net?

  17. as much as i am for net neutrality, this video doesn't go into detail as to just what's being attempted, it just says "your rights are under attack"

    well, a couple things.

    1. the internet is not a free venue by rights, it's that way through business interests. it doesn't serve a company to quash the internet in any way because there are always competitors that would be willing to fill whatever void that is created by previous company's actions. the information on the internet may be free but the internet itself (As in, backbone servers, wires, technology to host it) is not.

    2. this looks like it's only in the US. what about other countries? what's to stop some savvy users if this were to happen from just hijacking a signal from another country? besides, this kind of thing is already happening in china and some other places in the world and yet you don't see many sites jumping up to try and stop it... do you? no flashy advertising campaigns, no trendy facebook communities... almost complete complacency until it happens to you, am i getting this right?

all in all, though i agree with the intent of keeping the information free, all this feels like is some reactionary shock-tactic to try and get people to a site (which, interestingly enough solicits for donations... hmmm, *strokes beard thoughtfully*) which doesn't go into much detail as to what threats there are specifically and what is being done to prevent them other than "spreading the word." this is without a deep reading of all pages on the site, however, just a few.
