Spring vs RO Water HELP!

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by 420 Man, Mar 27, 2010.

  1. Whats the deal?

I've been using spring water this whole time.
    am i doing it wrong?
are there any traces of anything i need to know bout?

i dont know if this matters but im asking these questions after reading this

    v v v

The Best Way To Measure PPM
One way people have measured the PPM is with TDS (total dissolved solids) but I would not advise this because
TDS was intended for determining the acceptability of drinking water, not nutrient solutions.
Instead use a meter that measures EC (Electrical Conductivity) this type of meter was made specifically for
    measuring nutrient solutions.

    NOW
Here is one of the biggest secrets the best growers
in the world figured out along time ago: if you want a
world class crop you have to use really great water.
And a very simple way to ensure that is get a
    reverse osmosis water system.

It's an absolute must for bigger yields.

You May Want To Read That
    Last Line Again...
Think about it, you spent all that time and hard
work building your grow room and in the final hour you
skimp on the water, it just doesn't make sense, you
really should invest in a reverse osmosis system.

They aren't that expensive these day, prices start
for under $100. A reverse osmosis system will take the
alkalinity out of your water and give you bigger yields.
And obviously alkalinity is one of our limiting factors we
want to get rid of, isn't it?

but RO in the gallon aint too expensive for me as idgaf

so PLEASE go crazy and fill me with knowledge.

i can only find reads on,RO, distilled water and tap, and none on spring, especially none for weed growing :p :smoking:

...spring water and what it contains, depends on where your getting your spring water from...obviously different parts of the earth will release different elements/minerals into the water that flows on/around/through it.

...tap water usually is safe, especially if your growing in soil, as long as it's dechlorinized. Tap has alot of cal./mag. in it usually, and MJ is a cal./mag. hog. <<< all I use is tap....

...the big hype with RO water and hydro growers is mostly due to MICRO chemical fertilizers. Micro, Bloom, and Grow, should be mixed in that order. Micro can possibly lock out if you have a ppm higher then 200-300 in your tap....

...that being said, hydro growers (using chemicals) mostly suggest using RO water because it has a nearly zero ppm....which, will insure that your micro doesn't lock out....and you have the extra bonus of knowing EXACTLY what is in your res.

...if your ppm of your tap is below 300, I'd use tap....my plants love tap in soil and hydro...and I save a little money by using less cal./magic.

...as far as bigger yields w/ ro h2o...idk, as long as your plant get what is needs, and nothing from your tap/spring water is harmful....I can't see it making a difference.

  3. i used r.o. water for many crops, but lately i have switched to tap water and havent noticed one difference. what i do is let the tap water sit for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate.

i was buying r.o water from my local fish supply store, i use it in my saltwater tanks for sure.

  4. Hmm alright, anybody else, come on. only thread online like this.

i want some nice facts :b

  5. Spring water has a tendency to have metals in it such as iron and magnesium. These can throw some things off, but in the long run it shouldn't cause too much of a prob. Just pay attention to signs of stress.

I would get an RO system, I got 50gal/day of ebay for $120 and not only do I use it on my plants we drink it too. Definitely pays off in the long run. This way you don't have to worry about problems associated with water.

  6. hmm

    ph benefits?

    is it ph neutral?

or at about 6.3 like spring??

  7. ...yeap, my RO water come out 6.3 on the money.

  8. i use aerated water. i like it because it will remove any chlorine from the tap.

my plants get really unhappy if i start giving them anything else

  9. ive used both in the past but after learning about ro tap and spring water i would really only use ro for flowering especially if hydro.if you use ro for seedlings or veg plants theres no cal or mag in the water..its got nothing.the ph of my ro water comes out at 6.3 also.my next batch im going to try using tap water but let it sit out so the chlorine evaporates.

the downside with ro water is it trashes about 3 or 4 gallons to make 1 gallon of ro.so your water bill can shoot up a bit.

  10. how much cal-mag do you suggest i need?

nirvana has a little, but just a little it seems like

  11. We have been consuming spring water since almost 2 years and find it very safe. It also depends on the company that you choose. Samantha Springs catered to our water needs very well. Rest is upon personal choice.
