split leaf stems -- help

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by hoopty_ref, Jan 16, 2010.

  1. have a couple established plants that im beginning to clone

    hydro
    good pH
    fed 15min cycle 3x day
rockwool blocks (4x4) and exp clay medium w/ drip feed
    18/6 cfl light cycle

donors are starting to look rough, especially the fan-leaf stems which are beginning to split
will have some pics up in a few, needing some good insight -- i love em too much

  2. weird leaf formations are fairly normal on clones and moms due to the stress...
also i think that "stalked" and "webbed" leaves are genetically determined:smoke:

  3. well, the moms are what i'm really worried about, the leaf stems not the leaf formation

i could see stress as i had a slight pH issue right after i transferred them into the larger clay medium -- thought maybe a root issue but dunno

    well, now that's weird looking...
i misinterpreted when you said split... i thought you meant like "every blade on its own stem", but you actually mean "split open"...
hmmm... never seen anything like that to be honest...
it doesn't really seem to affect the leaves too much tho...

  5. this happen to a couple of my plants too
I'm not sure what caused it, be gentle with the stem though, it will break easy.

  6. thanks! in your experience was it a detrimental effect? i've noticed more starting to do the same and afraid my sweeties will be fatally afflicted as i don't know how to stop it. thinking i may change my reservoir just to be safe. even considering clipping the ones that split but will hold off on such extreme measures.

  7. i wouldn't clip them unless the leaves have died off completely, as long as there's some green left in them they benefit the plant most of the time

  8. I just snapped the couple fan leaves that it happened to off, it wasn't that big of a deal. My plants were in soil too

  9. doesnt look like a problem there, they look healthy... r they fairly young? ive seen that happen alot.

  10. ya they are a little young only recently established enough to take some good cuttings -- haven't seen any new leaf stems do the same, but did have a handful do so over the course of a week and it got me worried -- leaves are still healthy looking so im not gonna worry about it unless it gets really bad
