Spider Mites

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by mizarc3, Mar 10, 2010.

  1. I have spider mites. I bought an organic soap to get rid of them. The bottle says use every 5-7 days. I want to use it everyday until these things are gone.

Anyone ever use an organic soap more frequently than 5-7 days?

Also, can I spray when lights are on or should I spray when off? I think I read somewhere that liquid on the leaves with lights on will damage them.

    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

It's always safe and best to spray when the lights are off. You might wanna mix it up on how you treat your mite problem. Spider mites can build immunity to various pesticides. From the many pages of bookmarks I have, it's best to treat with one product one week and change it the next. I have also read in numerous places that the soaps do little to nothing to curb any infestation. The various methods of treatment and their relative success will depend on the size of infestation and the stage of growth the plants are in. There are products that can get quite expensive that claim to handle mites, and even users that can say the same. I have seen comments on the higher end products that say it worked, or it slowed things down but not fully eradicated the problem. If you just google spider mites and read about, you will see from other perspectives what might work best for you. There's forums about the web of folks using a 1;1 ratio of 70% iso alcohol and H2O as a cheaper means to control a smaller population of mites. I can't say I've tried any of these methods as mites fortunately have not been my pest issue as of late. Good luck with what you decide and let us know what has worked for you.

As for spraying daily with the soap, I never have personally. You might want to wait and see what other folks might say on this or do some searches on it's use and effectiveness.
