Heartbreaking news to wake up and see spider mites a few days before harvest. Is there anything I can do?
When it happened to me, I took the plants, and laid them on their side and gave them a cool shower. The water knocked a lot of them off. I gave the plants a good shake, put them back in the closet and put a fan on them to dry! Granny

Spinosad is a product than can be used to control mites on flowering plants. Just avoid spraying the buds as much as possible. I also like granny's suggestion, I have found that the most effective way to get rid of mites to to physically knock them off with water (in the shower/with the kitchen sprayer) like she suggested, then spray a few days later with neem oil (in veg) or spinosad (in flower) to take care of any stragglers and eggs that may have hatched. Either way the buds get wet, which can be a problem if you've got big, dense buds and can't get them dried out fast enough. You say you're only a few days from harvest? Can you do a spinosad spray on just the leafy growth, avoiding the buds. How bad is the infestation, is there any way that you can just wait it out? Giving the plants a good spray/rinse and then drying them back out might be worth it if it's bad enough. You don't want to be smoking little bugs.

They are on the smallest of leaves and am out of money. They are mostly on the branches of branches, so Im going to try granny's method to get rid of them
^good plan. If you have a kitchen sprayer, try to use that and avoid spraying the buds as much as you can (unless they have mites on them). Good thing you caught it quick!

Buds aren't huge or extremely dense or anything(CFL lighting) and I was thinking of showering the lower portion the most as this is where they are.
^That sounds fine then. Use your judgement, it sounds like your plant will be fine in the shower and the buds will be able to dry out pretty fast. Make sure to put a fan on them like granny said to help dry it out.
I don't want to be smoking my meds and hear a pop from a dead spider mite! The threat level has dropped to nearly nothing thanks for the help!
exact thing happened 2 me three days before harvest is when i caught um. i sprayed with cold water then got spinosad, probably lost 1/2 that girls production. only on one girl too, i was amazed
Theres a newer product out called Mighty Wash I think can be used up to harvest. It's 99% water, and I hear works real well.
You are correct that mighty wash is 99% water. It "works" because of a "special frequency". Right . After some discussion a while back in the organics section I believe it was concluded that it contains a small amount of cinnamon oil, although the company won't divulge the ingredients (it works because of a special frequency!). Skip the "magic water" products. And avoid any companies that try to sell you expensive products with this type of sales pitch but won't tell you the ingredients in their product. From their website: 1. What is frequency? A: In modern times, the discovery of electricity brought about the concept of electromagnetic actions. Since then science has established that electrical magnetic energy exists in all life. Nikola Tesla a pioneer in electromagnetism said, “There is no thing endowed with life in all this world that does not sway in its turn. Whenever action is born from force, though it be infinitesimal, the cosmic balance is upset.” “Stabilized Frequency Technology,” by NPK is the only spray product with this technology in a stabilized form for consumer use. 2. What do NPK products contain? A: PM Wash - consists of frequency adjusted water specific to the intended action. Power Wash - consists of frequency adjusted water specific to the intended action. Mighty Wash - consists of frequency adjusted water specific to the intended action and trace amounts of naturally derived plant extracts.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UhAGDDP-t8]Mighty Wash tired of neem this product is now tested and varified! - YouTube[/ame] Tested, and verified by a canadian guy thats been advocating for medical users/growers for years.
Ok. There are many plants that are highly effective pesticides. Cinnamon oil is one of them. I'm not disputing that. What I am definitely arguing against is paying $40 for a bottle of "frequency adjusted water" with unknown "plant extracts". Go buy a small bottle of cinnamon oil and make your own. Regular water will work just fine, "frequency adjusted water" is just pseudo-scientific sounding nonsense. I'm sure that guy does a lot of good things for medical growers and users. But I would not recommend anyone pay $40 a bottle for this stuff from an obviously shady company. Make your own for way cheaper.
This isnt the run of the mill issue. He's days from harvest, and wants them dead.I tried to offer a valid tested way to do so.Your asking to "guess",and use cinnamon. It also depends how much he has to spray. You can get a liter for $15.Even at $40 I think its well invested in your last however many months of time to save the weed. It's a no brainer to me.
Hey now blades, lets end the dispute because I'm poor for at least a week Trimming and lightly showering her is doing the job.
Yea I have a friend who used the mighty wash in the last week of flowering when the mites popped up on his plants, he swears by the stuff now...I bought some just to have in my room, in case..If I end up using it I am going to do a post on it here though...
Once you do harverest make sure that you bomb the hell out of your grow space then do it again 2 weeks later, or they'll be back. I've been fighting the bastards for a while now.
Invest in a good 2 liter pressure sprayer that has a fine most of else your just wasting whatever you spray. Lemongrass oil, neem oil, caster oil will all work up till harvest. The difference between if it's an essential oil or a hormone extraction ecfects the potency. Azatrol - neem plant extract. 5ml per gal to 60 ml per gal. Depending on stage of flower.
