spider mites on seedlings

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by MasterOG, Jun 13, 2011.

  1. I have spider mites on my week old seedlings, i can tell by the webs and small white spots :(. Whats the safest, best way to get rid of them when they are on seedlings? Help me GC!

    Some background info:

    Soil mix:
    50% peat moss
    30% perlite
    20% worm castings

Get about 8 hours of sunlight in 80/90 degrees Fahrenheit

  2. bump for wisdom

  3. I'd just kinda squish em with my fingers and maybe spray a light strength neem oil on them...and also spray the soil at the base of the stem to deter any more..

  4. I don't know that much about growing, but I do know that when my grower gets insects, mold or mildew he uses sulfur. They have a heater pan that they put it in for 3 hours a day for 3 days and it takes care of the problem without harming the plants. I don't know if this can be done on seedlings or not tho.

  5. alright, also ive heard orange peel deter the mites, any truth to that?

  6. Any other suggestions would be great, im sure its not much of a problem now and can be handled this early on. I am growing this outdoors so im sure the mite population will be kept in check by other predators, but i want to make sure these little bastards stay away

  7. neem oil spray....they will kill the plants... so you need to spray..
even a water spray will kill many of them, the drown very easy..
its the eggs that are the problem, thats where the neem spray helps..

  8. I spray the underside and top of the leaves everyday, twice or more a day. I also put orange peels in the soil (they are in solo cups for now), ive heard that deters them as well

I will also use neem oil soon as i get my hands on some

  10. Alright fa sho, but my grow is outdoors, will it still work outdoors?

  11. After looking at the reviews for the doctor doom products, ive came to the conclusion that it doesnt work well.

I did however find a product that kills mites in all stages of their pathetic lives, even eggs! It's a petroleum oil apparently, this is one product Our Products — PureSpray

    Yea! :hello:

  12. try safer brand insect killing soap its organic and kills spidermites a bunch of others also.

  13. I would be happy to furnish u with a reference list
of happy patients of mine, here at GC, who have
saved their grows by taking this same advice.

I dont know how u came to that conclusion.

Doktor Doom is extremely effective against all
levels of infestation and is the #1 product for
    combatting SMs.

    Take it or leave it.

U dont wanna be smearin some witch-doctor voodoo
oily goop all over the plants do ya ??? Dont be sold.

  14. I dont mean to come off as a dick lol, i just googled it and i guess there were mixed results. But i saw this and apparently it kills eggs too, along with all the other stages of mite fucking infestation (fucking bastards)

    So i was like [IMG]

  15. Nah, I never thought bad of u man :).
I actually came across as fucked up, re-reading it lol !!!

Anywayz - go for it. It might do the trick. Your infestation is
    at a low manageable/containable level.

Im not here to stand in anyones way, in experimenting.

I hope once uve treated, u will share a review wiith us.

There is a reason I recommend Doktor Doom so much...

While most pesticides are applied locally to the plant, or
via the medium, DD has the added benefit of cleaning out
the entire grow space at the same time, ensuring there isnt
even any in the space, let alone the plant itself.

Many growers forget that bugz dont just chill out on a plant
their whole life, they are explorers and colonizers.

Just like the Borg - resistance is futile.

    Please keep us updated.
