[SIZE=10.5pt]I enjoy Sourcing Organic Soil Mix Components so much, I thought a thread on sourcing gear would be a great next step! This is a place to talk about everything we use to grow these beautiful plants. Lights, fans, pans for runoff. You name it, we all wanna hear about it. A central location, I'll try to keep it updated as we go. Such has my predecessor. Any suggestions, other equipment I should add. Let me know. When I bought my grow equipment, I was living in an illegal state, and was accordingly a lot more paranoid than I am now..... so I drove 4 hours to my nearest HTG location and bought pretty much everything lol... of course, this was probably 5 years ago. I should probably get new bulbs..... Do HPS or MH bulbs degrade at all over time, even if they aren't being used?
Damn...spooky how close we are. I have that same lamp and ballast in the 600W model and a wider reflector. I'll post links when I get home. I bought a similar fan, temp/RH unit and scissors too. Do you mind if I ask the lumens ratings on the 1000 watt bulbs? At 600W my MH is rated at something like 49,000 and the HPS at around 80,000. I don't think so. Not while not being used. Or at least not appreciably. Not sure about after they have been used, but again, I don't think it would be an appreciable difference if you are on a regular cycle of using them. Sent from somewhere over there. No, not there...over THERE.
I used the MH for maybe 5 weeks, then didn't use either bulb again for probably 5 years, until last fall. I'm now in my second grow with these bulbs, other than the initial 5 week use of the MH. I feel like the MH wasn't messing my pictures up as much as it did when it was brand new.... that's why I thought maybe it had degraded over time..... probably just in my head lol
Same camera, yes..... I don't even know what a white balance is lol (I mean I can guess.... but no knowledge about it)
Well you know how the light mid day is whiter or bluer that the light at sunset? In order for a camera to render colors correctly it has to balance how the sensors respond to the colors Red, Green, and Blue. This is done manually by taking a photo of a white or grey (neutral) card and adjusting based on that. Most cameras have certain presets like "daylight", "cloudy", "incandescent", etc. If that differed between the photos it will make a huge difference. Sent from somewhere over there. No, not there...over THERE.
I'd do the same if I weren't legal! lol Even If they don't degrade, which I don't see why they wouldn't. Most things do over time. But this is the place to find the best bulbs for the money! HPS Bulb: Lumen - 140,000 & 1 - MH Bulb: Lumen - 110,000 That's what it said on amazon. See, now that's there standard bulb. Prolly not the best if it's in a bundle. \nSo, I bought a Digilux. 155,000 Lumens HPS,.120,000 Lumens MH. When I bought it, I believed it to be of better quality. And that's what my hopes are of making this thread, to be able to weed out the weak gear. So, it was between digilux, and hortilux. Ayone with experience with either would be great. Been running my 1000 watt digilux MH for 6 months straight with no issues. \nDo you have this one perhaps? http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Horticulture-GLK400GW19-Digital-Dimmable/dp/B004YXDHX6/ref=sr_1_2?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1401732914&sr=1-2 I too own it. I'm using it for my veg room. How long you been using your system. Appolo so far have done me good. No voucchin for it or anything with less than a years worth of experience with it. The white balance for the HPS?
lol I'm just an amateur.... I use a Nikon Coolpix lmao. You actually just helped me, because I just noticed there is movable bar on the right hand side with a Red/Green/Blue Venn-diagram at the top and Black/Gray/White Venn at the bottom.... sweet! So I need more color under the MH and more black/gray under the HPS? Or what? I think previously, I've just been using the presets "Food" and "Close-Up" depending on whether I wanted a flash or not lol.
Gandalf, setting your White Balance properly will allow you to take a great picture in a growroom that is running ten 1,000 watt HPS bulbs...It will make your picture come out right instead of being all yellow looking. Im not sure if you have a book for your camera but might be able to find it online if not. If the white balance settings are available its worth playing with them. Dont mean to get off topic Kshow - great idea with the thread. j
It's all good info, and that's what we want. lol I still haven't figured out mine. Need to get on that, cuz I hate them damn yelllow HPS shots. Feel like i'm doin my record keepin a disservice. What kind of attachments are you using for your chapin?
Good idea J! So I need to do a preset white balance under the HPS.... got it! I'm finding some good shit in this online manual.... Macro Mode.... that'll be useful lol Sorry for the tangent Kshow.... I mean cameras are a form of grow equipment right?
Electronic is the newer, more superior technology. Less flicker, less noise from resistance, more energy efficient, etc... It offers a few other advantages in fluorescent liking; like giving you the ability to run more lamps, and to run parallel circuits, so if a lamp burns out it doesnt affect the other lamps. Electronic ballasts for HID lighitng allow for the use of both mh and hps on the same ballast. The advantage of magnetic ballasts: cheaper, simpler, easier to fix.
Wow. You jus summed it up beautifully. The biggie for me is the ability to be able to run HPS and MH.
We deal with such pussy gear for growing, it's time to step our game up! This is shit I deal with on a (semi)regular basis. THIS ONE IS MOTHER F#$&ING 100,000 WATTS. It's so bright; it's overwhelming to the senses (this we dont use so often) - http://www.luminyscorp.com/softsun/100k-linear/ This is only 18,000 watts, but I've seen it set people's clothes on fire if they got too close -http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/417447-REG/Arri_563500_Arrimax_18_12_KW_HMI.html Oh wait, you wanted a massive light balloon hovering in your warehouse? And you want it to be daylight or tungsten balanced?! Ok. http://www.airstar-light.us/gallery_film_tv.html I yearn to use this kind of gear on some mmj.
6" iPower Carbon Filter on a-zon for $69.94. I like it because you can reverse the flange and get a little more life out of it. Also, since it has screws it can be emptied and refilled with more charcoal. Thanks for the great thread idea kshow! Hth, matt.
DAMNNNNN! There light bill must be crazy! I believe this is the one I have. How long you had yours? I think I'll jus throw up recommendations until were told differently about an item. No problem, I love the amendment thread so much. I thought why not have one for gear. At least half the reason were able to get the product we do. lol Hell yea! How'd you break into the biz? IF ya don't mind me askin.
