Sour Diesel Grow Journal

  1. Let me start off by saying, this is my second grow. Period. I'm not an experienced grower so all feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm growing in a 2 ft x 6 ft closet. The entire setup costed around 300 bucks. Every square inch covered in mylar.

I'm using a 400 watt Apollo Horticulture MH/HPS grow light dimmable system with an air cooled hood. The 6 in inline fan is directly to the right of the hood.

I had to cut a 6 in hole in the ceiling to run the exhaust through. I initially just vented directly into the attic. But as the night time temps really began dropping, I became worried the hot air from the grow room exhausting into a cold attic would cause condensation and eventually mold. So I went back up there and connected the ducting to an exterior vent on the side of the house.

This intake vent is actually designed for dark rooms. So with the door shut and sealed, the inline fan creates a vacuum, letting in fresh cool air with zero light leaks.

Being in the midst of a drought, this 20 dollar humidifier was a must for the early stages of growth.

I germinated all 5 seeds by doing a 24 hour soak in room temp distilled water. Then planted seeds directly in the soil and watered with distilled water ph'd to 6 ish. I currently use Root Organics soil and am a huge fan.

Ran into my first snag by simply not paying attention to what I was doing. I took a pen and made a little hole in the soil about 2 inches deep and carefully dropped each seed in. Tap roots already very visible. Covered the tops of the solo cups with plastic wrap and put them under the light at 50% power.

The next day it dawned on me that I might have planted them entirely too deep. So I removed the first inch of soil in each cup and VERY tediously and carefully dug down until I saw a seed. Then made sure there was no more than a half inch of soil covering each seed.

3 days later 5 of 5 had sprouted.

They exploded in growth from that point forward. I'm using Dyna-Gro Grow for veg and Dyna-Gro- Bloom for flower. Considering on supplementing with pro tek as well. Before the previous feeding, the plants were still too thin and fragile to safely transplant. By the next feeding, stems had doubled and tripled in circumference. I went from not ready for transplanting, to fearing root bound in a matter of days. They were transplanted to #1 pots 3 days ago.

I can't believe how strong these plants smell this early and am honestly a little afraid of how loud they'll end up. From what I've heard, Sour Diesel freaking reeks. My first grow of Blueberry didn't really start smelling until flower. Fingers crossed the charcoal filter will do its job.

I'm currently at day 24 of this grow and have decided to try mainlining. I topped the plants last night at the 3rd node. Giving them a day or so to recover before I remove everything below the 3rd node.

  3. Thanks man I appreciate it. Have you grown sour diesel before?

I lopped off everything below the 3rd node as of night before last. They've shown no signs of stress since.

And apparently my Doberman is nuts about the stuff. She was scarfing fan leaves down like they were bacon.

  5. I haven't been updating this because it just hasn't really gotten any attention. So just a quick update, I'm 3 wks into flower and pleased thus far.
