  1. i know this isn't the forum for computer questions, but i don't know where else to ask. i recently formatted my hard drive and re-installed windows and know i can't play sound. when i go to "audio devices" in the control panel, and try to select a "playback device" everything is greyed out and i can't select anything. anybody have any ideas? all my drivers are updated.

  2. do you have a built in sound card or pci one? Just uninstall the drivers then reinstall them.

  3. Driver problem, classic when you reformat. Update, or uninstall and update. Update your mother board drivers too.

  4. ^ yep find the motherboard disc if home built or the brand name recovery disk

don't let it auto run just go to my computer right click properties and head to device manager

scan for hardware changes or update whatever drivers are ? marked in yellow or x'ed in red

reboot if need be and enable sound from media control panel
