Some STEROTYPES that BOTHER me.

  1. Hi everyone-

    My first post!

I'm really bothered by the way that people automatically stereotype people who smoke pot. I had always known I hated the 'stoner' steroetype, but I really realized how much I DESPISE the way people characterize pot-smokers a couple weeks ago.

It was a weekday night, and harmless little old Steve was sparkin a bowl in a (what I thought was) hidden area that I had smoked at many times before. I saw someone drive by, but I figured it was just some person doing less admirable things than I was. When a car (I didn't take note as to whether or not it was the same one...) passed, I decided to beat it cause I was getting to sketched out. Then the car turned around and parked, and I heard "Stop right there!" After a resonating "SH*T!" finished ringing through my brain, the man in the car introduced himself as a lieutenant in my town, blah-dee-blah etc.

Luckily, he let me go, seeing as I only had my travel (teeny tiny) little bowl and a nug or two left with me when he came (but not before throwing my bowl into a nearby forest, that bitch!).

After I got over the initial shock factor, I got really angry. After he finished flapping his mouth about how pot is illegal and will get me nowhere, he pointed to some nearby graffiti. "Now son, if you keep hanging out with the bunch of 'zeros' that you smoke pot with, you're gonna start doing worse stuff, like that! *points to graffiti*

    HOLD IT!

Excuse me, but I'm really ticked by this. Pot is portrayed on TV, on the radio, whatever, as being this horrible DRUG that can get you into trouble. Thus, I'd like to explain my life.

I'm an 18-year-old senior at a Catholic High School. I have 4.4 GPA and I am 4th in my class out of 200. I sing and act in the school play. I play piano at SCHOOL MASSES, and live in a neighborhood full of old people and dogs. I've never gotten arrested, never gotten in trouble with police (except for that little anecdote above...), never gotten DETENTION, never gotten a stinkin' CAVITY, and I smoke pot at LEAST 4 or 5 times a day, EVERYDAY.

This is why I am so angered by pothead stereotypes. Not EVERYONE who smokes gets into trouble. I don't smoke so I can brag to my friends that I 'smoked pot', I don't do it to be bad, I do it becuase I LOVE TO BE HIGH.

...so I get pretty pissed when people explain marijuana as a thing that wiull mess up your life or lead you to harder drugs-- cause guess what! I'f you're responsible with it then YOU'RE GOLDEN! No one ever takes THAT point of view when talking about how HORRIBLE pot is. Yeesh!

Anyone else have opinions on this?

  2. Welcome to the forums! You're going to find that an overwhelming majority of peope who enjoy cannibis recreationally are, if not more productive citizens than those who fit the media-driven "stoner" stereotype. Several of my professors smoke cannibis at least weekly, if not daily. I know people in high-positioned city offices who grow privately in their own home for themselves, friends and family.

To illustrate and follow your example, I'm about to graduate with two B.A. degrees and move into a highly esteemed master's program for Classics, and I've been published twice - once in philosophy and once in creative non-fiction.
Both works I wrote while high. I've been VP of my Fraternity, yadda, yadda, yadda....Heck, I even presented the philosophy paper at the conference while buzzing. Afterwards, I ate a whole bunch of food. :D

Yes, there are people out there who live and feed that stereotype, but that is an astonishing low percentile of the whole of cannibis users. Welcome to the fold, brother. :hello:

  3. stereotypes are stereotypes. nothing you can do about it. yes, it pisses me off sometimes too, but i usually just ignore them right off the bat.

  4. Ha yeah I get good grades too n blaze about as much as you do. During Red Ribbon week I was picked as the "student of the week" in the newspaper... so there I am in school, blazed as usual, listening to teachers/administrators telling me to "keep up the good work" and at the same time that pot will make me stupid/dead/wtfever they're pitching nowadays. Basically, fuck stereotypes, fuck ignorance, and keep blazin.:smoking:

  5. Unfortunately there is a very good reason for that stereotype. Dumbasses perpetuating it and using marijuana as an outlet for their shortcomings and failures.

  6. The funny thing about stereotypes...is the looks you get when you manage to completely obliterate someones idea of what you should be.

  7. i have the same problem even though i get like A+ to B+ in evey class. One thing that realy pisses me off is when people think all I do in art class is draw weed leaves.

  8. Damn that sucks man. At my school only my friends know I smoke. I keep my drug life secret. But I got a buddy who is the biggest stoner in the school. He litereally sits in the hallways and smokes cigarettes and smokes bud in the bathrooms lol. I don't really fuck with that because it ain't worth it. But the worst sterotype for people who are always trying to be better than other people. Also period nothing pisses me off when a friend isn't a true friend. Where as in you have a friend and he thinks your wierd for one reason and won't be your friend anymore for that. For instance when I started drinking I lost like 5 friends it was a bummer. True friends are the best friends. Loyalty;)

  9. i think he has a good point, unforunatley i cant understand :smoking:

stereotypes are based on fact. but they totally suck and almost never really fit, but there is nothing you can do about it.
