some questions before starting first ever grow (sog)

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by dudewhodidstuff, Aug 13, 2007.

  1. Thinking about doing a grow. Need some advice.

I am thinking I will do SOG. I was thinking 20-25 small plants(grown to 1-2 feet and then forced into flower) in 1.5 gallon pots...does that sound about right? How much light would I need for that? Would a 600 watt hps work or would 1000 be better?

    What else would I need?

I would like to use feminieed seeds...what are the pros and cons as opposed to non-feminised seeds besides cost? What would be a good strain that is available feminised that is easy to grow for a first timer, potent, and had a decent yield?

What can I do to get the best yield?

Any good tips, etc for a first timer?

Also, I remember seeing a link on CC somewhere of an automatic timer that hooks up to all your lights, fans, etc, and keeps them all automatically on track...does anyone have that link?

What exactly will I need? So far i can think of

    seeds
    pots
    lights
    soil/nutrients/ferts
    fan
    carbon filter?

where is good reading on ferts/nutrients/soil, like a very detailed description of exactly how to do everything, specifically in my situation of a 20-25 plant sog grow...or something similar?

Whatever other advice you could give I would appreciate.

    thanks ahead of time

  2. A true SOG uses clones so that all of the "Budlets" are the same ...with the same growth pattern
    pick yer strain...
    grow out the seedlings...
    # each seedling well...
keep all buds separated by plant #...
decide which ones to keep ...clone the hell outta them and then do a SOG

  3. So is it not possible to do SOG starting with seeds? Is it not a good idea?

What would be a better way to grow starting from seeds? Which way would be easiest to do and yield the most?

    Any other advice???

  4. o yea i heard femm'd seeds have less potency and yield less... dont kno of its true... just go with the clones tho homie

  5. Hmm does any one know more about this? If thats true I def would rather just use twice the amount of seeds and then get rid of the males later...

I dont have access to clones...

Would hydro be a better idea? For a first timer? Wouldnt the yield be much higher?

  6. Would hydro yield more with the same amount of light/electricity??

  7. SCOG....works well with seedlings

  8. dude,

hydro has more yield thats true. But organic is recommended for first time growers. There is a lot more that can go wrong with hydro growing, your entire crop can die in one night if you've fucked up
