hey, so im gonna be moving out soon for college and im looking at places with walk in closets for a personal grow room.. But i got some questions.. if i had 4 plants growing at once, would 1 150w HPS be good, or should i get 1 400w hps? i Dont want the closet to get to hot.(dont have exact size yet, but i do know im gonna rent a place with a large enough closet for 4 plants) When you buy HPS lights/hoods, can you plug them into the wall how they come or do you have to wire them to something so they can plug in? I dont know how to wire things. do you think 4 plants (im using attitude, so im gonna avoid seeds that talk about strong aroma) in a walk in closet will be an overpowering smell during flowering? O yeah, and how much water should each plant get , and how often should i water...im worried ill over do it. any strains you would reccomend, that are high yielding, good quality, and not stanky? also, any tips on staying stealth while renting.. like if they come to spray for bugs or w/e the fuck they do when you rent.. what would you say? i have been thinking about building my self a large wooden wardrobe closet that i could move all my plants/equip into when/if they come.. i hear they are not allowed to open anythng you own. thanks. my plan so far- im probably gonna be using a 18/6 for 2 months then a 12/12 for 2 months. harvest every 4 months, because i wont have room to have a veg room and a flower room(once i own a place, gonna do that so i harvest every 2 months) =/.. atleast thats the plan, prbly will start in january so my harvest will be just in time for 4/20 if i dont fuck up.
I wouldn't worry to much about how much to water them and stuff until you are setup, every setup is different due to diffent temps and humidity and stuff. Go with the 400w if you do setup, you wont be sorry, just make sure you can cool it. Also your timing could be well off, plans never work out perfect, most strains tke longer than the 8 weeks that most claim for flowering times I find. And be sure to get a carbon filter, I have never found a true low odor strain in my life All the dank I smoke smells like dank. I'd work on how your going to vent it all and cool it all before you setup and where to put stuff if you need to hide it all if you get a visit while renting. Good luck Northern lights is a good first grow or LSD from Barney's farm but there are many others.
thanks for the help and alright ill go with the 400w, and about the carbon filter, i dont really know what those are other then they mask smell.. i always hear people say get them.. but i just have no clue what there talking about like how it works, where to get them, or how much they cost, and when i google it so much shit comes up.. and for coooling i guess ill just get a intake and outake fan.. and open a window at night to cool down the room until summer rolls around then i gotta find a better way.
You need to hook a carbon filter up to an inline fan and either have it push air through or pull air out. The air gets moved through some activated carbon and trust me it just works, you can smell it in seconds when you turn a filter off. If you're renting an apartment I would suggest a lockable cabinet. The exterminator or the landlord may come in and if they catch a whiff or hear a fan going in the closet and get nosy...well you know. But with 4 plants a carbon filter is definately a must. Like Thunder mentioned there is no low odor strain if you grow it right I'd go with the 400 too with proper ventilation. I bought a 250 and want to upgrade already
word thunderfuck lol looked at the DIY and found one i think ill use.. when set up the closet, ill probably buy a new door and cut a hole in the bottom for intake, and a hole uptop for exhaust then get a cheap but powerful fan for out.. i would wanna rig the carbon filter to the exhaust at the top of the door and push the air through it into my room im assuming.. so it will have the same concept as when blowing weed through a spoof. it will come out smelling nice? thanks man, i reallyyy appreciate the help.. and yeah man i was thinkin about building a big particle wood dresser looking thing, so if they were to swing by i could move everything in there and pad lock it.. and then im buying a spare door to cut holes in so, when they come, i could just switch em out. and maybe i should purchase an ionizer?iodizer just for some extra comfort.
I gathering the things to turn this into a cab for two plants. Growing securely in plain sight. I just think a door with a vent cover on the top and bottom is suspicious looking. I'm an apartment dweller and they just pop up on you sometimes but you know your situation better than me. Just call me paranoid.
^that may be more realistic actually.. cause now that i think about it, with the whole closet thing i would have to have my room on LOCKDOWN 24/7. and i do remember being at a friends and mgmt just like knocked and walked in. but If i built my own lockable cabinet and painted the outside it would just blend in.. i could still probably fit 4 plants cause ill make it big.. and i could hide the ventilation better. and i could have some friends in the room without worrying about them noticing a closet op.
This! I have a 13 week sativa, and I'm on like week 12 of flowering or so. She has at least another 2 weeks in her. The hairs are still out, sugars on the leave, havn't bulked up yet at all. Yet even many of the trichromes have appeared amber. Use the time as a general guide to when you should be done, and nute scheduling. Also, the weeks of flower does not start until the plant shows sex, not when you flip to 12/12. It could take 3 weeks to sex after 12/12.
I've already seent hat cab in your journal but it is awesome . I couldn't get away with having my grow in another room though, I think the fans and stuff are very loud . Good info, flowering times can be a pain. I usually stay away from Sativa strains but I've just had some diesel that finished in 9 weeks .
I use these fans. They blend in with the loud ass room fan that will be on top of the cab and on at all times. This will also be in my BR where noone gows. Just throwing ideas
so i figured out which strain im gonna grow. barneys farm LSD, probably gonna buy 10 feminized seeds.. and then 10 feminized laughing buddha to fuck around with later down the road... its says the yield is 600 g/m2 does that mean 600 grams for however m2 that are in your grow room?.. if so how much could i expect/guesstimating (lets assume i do good and dont fuck anything up) from 4 plants on 2 to 3 months of vegging... im trying to get a large yield, because i smoke alot lol and wanna smoke up my roomate as well. sick of dealing with dealers and dont wanna be blowing money while im going to school. and with germination people say do the paper towel method, but could i just put the seed straight in the soil, wouldnt that be easier?.. or does that take longer to sprout, and fail more. and thanks to everyone helping, its making more sense when i hear differnt peopel putting things in their own words.
Thats a long veg time I vegged my Barney's LSD for 4-6 weeks and got around 4oz per plant I really like that strain, Im a fan of Barney's but not really the laughing buddha The bluecheese and red diesel were much better. Nothing wrong with the laughing buddha just wasn't as potent or as lush as some of the others
4 oz in 6 weeks hell ya, i may cut my veg time down a little then. i dont know if i could have the patience for more then 2 months lol. and ill give the red diesel a shot instead of the buddha, looks hella dank. and ive decided to build L; 4.5ft W.2.5ft H: 7 ft (any bigger it will look sketch, unless i say i made a dark for my photography) cabinet with on one side a hole for air in, other side exhaust with 2 plants going at once i guess, might as well try LSTing one of em as well, giving each of my baby girls their space to grow up.
Ahhhh................If only real grows went along with the the plans we make.... haha yeah man, ive been thinking bout how im gonna set everything up non stop now. i feel like a little kid on christmas eve, i wanna get started but i have to wait a little longer.
Lol, I know how ya feel dude. I started my grow just under two weeks ago and I've changed the inside of my box around 3or 4 times. Added fans, added lights, moved fans, etc lol. Be sure to plan for everything you can think of, and then budget for more. I spent a little more than I had planned (partially because of mistakes on my part). For instance..I have a 4" inline duct fan to pull air through my grow box...turns out it was completely unnecessary (and so was the thermostat for it). The fan was too powerful and the thermostat was a pain in the butt to get to work..and it never stayed calibrated properly. I'm now using a 120mm computer fan from an old power supply for exhaust and it's perfect. It runs whenever the lights are on and i'm maintaining a steady 78F at the plants. It's all a big learning experience, but it's a lot of fun too I've been keeping a grow journal here if ya wanna check out my setup. It's def a lot smaller than yours, but I'm hopeful that I will be able to sustain my habits and medicating needs with this. Def keep us updated though, I'm def curious to see your set-up once you get it going. Just remember: Measure twice (repeat if your ), because you only get to cut once
haha, yeah like im still trying to budget and plan everything out to make it go as smooth as possible, but i just got a gut feeling im prbly gonna fuck atleast one thing up.. but yeah i feel ya, its all about the learning experience.. years from now, i will hopefully be harvesting pounds of beautiful stanky nuggets for my personal stash.. right on im bout to check out your journal, ill probably get a journal posted up in mid to late january cause thats when im hoping to be moved into my place and everythng set up.
