Perception. I'm not talking about the social aspect , but the physiological aspect of it. Some of us are born without senses such as being The lack of eyesight, taste, touch ,smell, and hear in whatever combination , lacking one sense is radically different from another. Just try to imagine your loved ones without visualizing them. It can't do it , but a blind person can. Somehow they can manifest the concept of a particular individual through hearing only.
Well, yes. A blind person who's hearing is intact (I once met someone who is both blind and deaf and that is very different again) creates an audible version of the people they meet. The way someone speaks carries with it tremendous information. FMRI scans show that what would normally be used for visual processing in sighted people, part of which lights up when we imagine, still lights up for the blind, indicating that they are visually 'imagining' their world even though they cannot use the same visual information we do.
once we perfect the technology to read minds , I'm curious if they can visualize, what kind of visuals are emerging in their imagination. Though lighting up certain areas of the brain is only a correlation and doesn't automatically mean they manifest images.
Perfecting of technology that can read minds? Seriously? And would that be solely used for the purpose of helping? or manipulating?
There is a technology that can read our dreams somewhat and they use algorithms to estimate what is being imagined. Whether it's used for helping or manipulating it's still a game changer on research in perception ,neuroscience and mental illness. Some people are born without part of a sense Visions the obvious one, some people can only see certain colors Some people though can only see motion and direction but not color or form Blindsight - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I can't even fathom what that would be like. You can also split touch into multiple sense 1) we have a sense of tactile sensation, our skin press's against something, you feel it's smooth or rough or squishy 2) We can feel where our muslces are and know where they are without looking. Some people have a disorder where there hand or leg will stop doing whatever they want it to do because they can't feel what it's doing, they can only see it. 3) Pain reception. There is an entire family in pakistan that has no sense of pain. You would think this is good, but really it's horrible. When ever you sit in a bad posture, you never feel it. Many of them have deformities from years of bad psoture. Plus they could break there ankle and not feel it and continue to walk on it crunching bones together and doing even more damage. Hearing.....well we hear different frequencies better than others. Some people can only hear certain ranges. Taste and smell are two of the strangest senses.
