Ok thanks for checkin out my post and helpin me out. I am totally new to growing, in fact i havent even started my first grow yet, im just tryin to find out the whole process which i pretty much have done, then what supplies i need. And since i have decided to start growing (just for personal use) i wanna do it right. So Here are a few questions if you dont mind: 1- I have read several mixed opinions about soil, i have heard some say to not use fert's and go just soil and nutes, and i have heard to the contrary. So which is best? time release, premade mix, what? 2- Next is a very confusing part for me, lighting. i've read that HPS is best for flowering, MH for vegetative. But then....i came across KamelRedLights CFL and other CFL users. And in most guides, it is bases on 2-3 more plants at a time, i will be growing ONE at a time, until later when i know what im doing. How many, what type, what wattage for that type? Any lighting advise or expertise PLEASE?? 3- I will be growing in an apartment, one plant to 2 plants (later) most at a time. How big should i make a grow box (Stealth)? Go more with height over width?? would a standard run of the mill Dresser work?? 4- Strain. What Strain would be best for a first timer, roughly. Indica/Sativa, Just Inidca, Just Sativa?? I went to Dr.Chronic's site to buy some seeds and was thinking about AK-47, sounds like good shit, would that be a good choice?? 1. Trust me when I tell you to stay away from pre-ferted soil and time release etc. Check the two threads in my signature for Miricle grow results. 2. Since you plan on only a max of two plants, CFL lights will probably do. HID lights watt for watt have more lumens then CFL's and are better at growing but, the HID's come with a big price; heat. 3. Make the box as big as you can make it. For two plants in pots smaller than 3 gallon 2' by 2 feet should do but, allow more height because the light [if CFL] will need to be 3 inches from the top plus reflector width etc. 4. Probably best to stick with Indica plants at beginning. Their flowering times are a lot shorter which is good for impatient noobees and impatient veterans like myself. AK-47 is a great strain and is a hybrid Indica sativa. Since it is your first grow, consider bag seed in case you mess up. 5. Good luck.
first and foremost. you need to check out this grow, its VERY interesting, deals with space issues, he was very thorough throughout this process, if you can skim through all the bullshit in these posts then this thread will help you. it was his first time too. http://forum.grasscity.com/general-indoor-growing/151500-first-grow-chronical.html as for your questions, dont ever get pre mixed soil, BOO. many people will say foxfarm is the best, but ive seen MG do the same work, the big thing is, organic in my opinion (then add nutes to the watering) ie, organic MG, not just the regular, because many people say its crap. anyway if you have money to blow, i would get fox farm if your wanting to do this right, and you have resources or money. then i would DEF go HPS. CFL's work, and many people love it, but there is no denying HPS is the best. also what you have heard is correct, MH veg, HPS flower, BUT. its not ness. many people just use hps from seedling to harvest, and it works fine. as for your grow room, and stealth thats something that you will have to decide on your own, but i think that thread i gave you will help you with space related issues. and maybe spark some ideas. lastly as for the "beginners" strain, with the help of grasscity, i wouldnt worry tooo much, none of them are so hard to deal with that you will be pulling your hair out about, however one of the best (stealth smell) and ease, is northern lights. grown right it will smoke amazing too. personal favorites= apollo 11, northern lights, blueberry and as always the search button is your friend, there is a wealth of knowledge to be learned from this site. anyway good luck and welcome do dia
The other guys covered it fairly well. My best advice to you on a first grow IT IS EASIER to overwater than underwater. DONT go overboard on the ferts. DO read PLENTY of grow guides to help you along the way. DO be careful, take precautions! Your grow WILL smell up your house when in flowering.
if you just want 2 plants, then one 150 hps will be plenty for your small/space grow so yeah, 250 would be great too, but you could easily get by
Sweet guys, thank you all very much. ok so now i pretty much know what soil imma use, nothing premixed and imma add nutes with/when i water. Lighting i still dont know what imma do as of right now, i think imma wait until i have my box/grow area together and then decide cause of course space and size will be a big factor. and i gotta go to the local places and check out pricing, cause im not on a huge budget. As for strain (thanks Doindia) i think i am gonna try that northern lights, i actually spoke to someone quite a bit ago about good strains and he personally liked northern lights and had grown it before. I havent had a chance to check out the links provided yet cause im in a hurry but i will when i get home this evening. So ya, i went to Dr. Chronic and looked up the price of some Northern lights, and jesus thier pricey... anything a little cheaper thats good? dont know if the wife will let me spend that much on seeds lol, shes already not liking the idea of me growing weed anyway Was wondering if you could coat the walls of a grow space or box type thing with Aluminum Foil? would that be a good reflective surface or do i need something more?
how much did you want to spend NL is going to be just as cheap as any if not cheaper. you might have been looking at the all FEMMED seeds. you should be able to get 10 seeds for 50-60, statistically you will get at least 5 females, and you can clone for free... femmed seeds are a lot more exp. and not worth it imo. as for coating your room, the best thing you can use is mylar, dont use aluminum foil, but a flat white surface (white walls, etc...) will do just fine.
