Some new vector work, need criticism

    Here is something I've been working on in Illustrator. I am hoping for some general criticism to help improve what I have so far.

    Wow, thats amazing..i love it!

    Never used Illustrator..Was that difficult to make?

    Not too hard. Just the pen tool, hehe. But I know it's definitely not done yet... seems like it is lacking some body. Maybe something in the background.

    But I'm glad you like it so far. ;)

    Well, I have been thinking about it. One thing I don't like is how it has a "creature" type vibe to it. I realized that when I first started working on it, but shrugged it off. I'm not totally sure on that, though.

    Also, I think I need some more 3d type styles for it.. like how those 2 stars are at the bottom. And I'm gonna mess with some gradients for the bg.

    thats realy good for illustrator. but one thing i would say is, im not to sure what it is. What are you going to be using this for? It looks like youve got the pen tool down pretty well.

    Not using it for anything in particular. Just another piece to throw up on my portfolio

    ahh aight i gotcha. You know how to use flash? and would you make your portfolio with it. . .just wondering. ya know. .

    i like it too. think about making a few highlights on it too if you weren't too attached on it being flat colored.

    Added some brushing, more designs, and gradient. I'm gonna start working on the middle stars next. They seem to be lacking

    @Orangecoat. Yeah, I know how to use Flash. That is my next project actually. To create a flash site for myself. It's really easy, I'm just lazy and all that.

    nice shit. the star is getting pretty trippy.

    maybe get some contrasting colors in there to make shit pop out cuz it does look a little flat.

    maybe try for the swooshing marks to be a little more smokey looking

    bad ass for sure

    OMFG....That looks Communist as shit man. Nice, I got a sick poster that's similar in style. I totally captures the massive reference basic but massive... I don't know but , fuck its Friday and i just smoked a big fatt J.

    I like 1 and 3 the most.

    Are you using a tablet?

    I've been considering getting myself a Wacom Intuos, eventually.

    Thanks guys! Nope, no tablet.. just the pen tool.

    I'm in the same boat as you... really want an Intuos, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

    Yeah, I agree.. need to get some more colors in there. It's hard to get the right ones though, but I'll keep truckin'

    in my opinion, I don't think you should add any new colors only rebalance the colors if you need to. One way I've found to give a piece visual impact is to restrict its color palatte just like you have it now. I think you could get away with adding new colors that are shades and tints of the colors you're already using, pretty much allowing you to add another level of detail on top of whats present.

    I'd also continue adding detail with defined edges, I mean don't try to add too many gradients or transparent parts. You might want to work on the top triangle some more too, I don't think that yellow makes a good boarder.

    Just wanted to say I greatly appreciate everyone that has stopped by and commented on this piece so far. You guys really help with your suggestions! Here is a last edit for the day. I ditched the bottom-middle horizontal lines going across, and those stars. Didn't really like them.

    I like Palmer's idea more, with the variations of the current colors instead of news ones. Gave that ago in the middle stars as you can see. And thank you for pointing out the yellow lines, they were bad. ;)

    That big white line going over the stars looks a bit out place right now. But I think it could look good once I do something with it.

    My only familiarity with vector art is that I once worked in a sign shop. Everything had to be vectored in order to be cut out of vinyl. There are ways to print on vinyl, but that's not important...:rolleyes:

    Anyway, if this were to be cut out of graphics vinyl and applied somewhere...I would really really want to be the one doing it. I miss that job a lot, and this would be a really interesting decal to apply.

    I like it. I can't really give any artistic advice, but here's some encouragement!

    When it's done I'll get you a good deal on having it made up if you let me do it ;)

    Bah, I let this piece die. I'm gonna try to give it a jump start tomorrow and see what I come up with cause I really would like to see it finished.
