Some help need from the pros about ventilation.

  1. The room is 7'2" tall, 6'3" wide, and 5' deep. I have split it in half for a veg room and a flower room. I have read through many of the threads on ventilation and am still somewhat clueless on how to set it up. I drawn up a basic plan but am still unsure about the size, type of fan that should be used, and how to wire it. Also, should the fans be placed directly onto the window or at the ends of the ducting? Any help would be appreciated. The light i have now is not air cooled either.

  2. Ventilation is one of the many vital aspects of growing indoors to consider when setting up your growroom. A few things to keep in mind when setting it up.

You want to put the fan where the air is going to be exhausted which will suck air into the box from wherever there are air intakes as well as other holes and cracks. This will contain the smell and allow you to move it to where you desire.

Before anybody can really give you specific advice, you should probably share some info. Maybe a picture of the workspace. What kind of lights are you using? Do you live in a place where you can freely alter the construction?

  3. I didn't see your drawing at first. It kinda clears things up. I would go to walmart and find a fan. They usually have them plugged in so you can find one that isn't too bulky and has a nice range of voltages. Your plants don't like 24 hour gale force winds. How close are you putting your clf's to your plants because I usually keep them within 3 inches but I don't have the extra heat from the metal halide to worry about. You could still vent that closet seperately by running a duct through the other room with an inductor fan pulling air from up by the metal halide. They sell them at walmart and are made to boost the airflow of your central heater and a/c. You'll probably find those in the same aisle as the ducting. 7x6x5=210 so you need to move 210 square feet of air before that air becomes warmer than 80 degrees. If noise is an issue, you probably can't rig up a leaf blower. I have a 6 inch inductor fan hooked up to a vent to the roof and it has a very quiet whine to it and it can move something like 240 sq ft. per minute. I can just barely hear it through the wall it's behind. You may not have a cool tube but you can still utilize the fact the heat rises and maybe rig up something for your mh and hps out of a couple 5 gallon buckets which can help direct the leaving airflow up and over the metal halide and immediately out of the room so it doesn't get a chance to circulate the room. Kinda like sucking the air up through a funnel. Radiant heat can be reduced by painting the inside of the closet completely with a very bright but flat white. Some use mylar but it has to be baby's ass smooth. Don't buy the flex ducting made for dryer hook-ups to vent anything. They look convenient but they kill airflow. I always paint the inside of all my ducts flat black to prevent the light from leaking anywhere down the line as a security issue.

  4. Oh and btw, they sell those inductor fans at home depot not walmart, sorry.

  5. thanks for the advice. I'm tryin to get it right the first time so the detailed input is greatly appreciated.

  6. what ducting are you talkin about? i was thinking of using the flexible type that you described not to use.
