I read through a book called "Marijuana Buds for Less than $100" and a few other guides online but I still have some questions about growing. First off, I was planning on growing in either a cabinet under a sink in an unused bathroom or a hallowed out guitar amp cabinet (30 in x 30 in x 15 in). The bathroom cabinet is a little short but has a bigger breadth. Both of these are bigger than some grow boxes I've seen on GC, such as the rubber maid box and the mini fridge. Which one of these would be better for growing? Secondly, how should I get seeds? A few people on GC mentioned buying them, but I think that's a little harder in the US. Is it ok just to use some from my bags? Thirdly, how bad will a setup like this smell? I need to be careful about the smell because I'm still living with my parents. Also are the fans that are used very loud? I was thinking about using computer fans. Depending on the setup I use sound may or may not be an issue. Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers
You've seen successful grows on here with at or less than 15 inches of vertical height? Show me! Bagseed is fine if you don't want to shell out the money for quality genetics, but I'd steer well clear of seeds from unknown origin in such a tiny grow space. The stink level is strain-dependent (another reason to avoid bagseed), but I'd be prepared for some quality stench when you flower. Hiding this grow from your parents is not advisable. Fans can be loud, fans can be quiet. You should already know how loud a pc fan is, unless you're posting from an iphone . I would be more concerned with how you plan to cover up buying pots, soil, nutrients, smell, water, etc. without your rents knowing. You can find fans that work great and produce very little sound.
vertical and horizontal height is 30 inches, it only goes back 15 inches. If there's some sort of standard for volume I probably ignored it when listing the dimensions. (i just remembered back from my elementary days its length x width x height, so it'd be 30 x 15 x 30) As far as keeping it from my parents - I only need to keep it from my mother, and both options I've looked at put my grow in my basement - which is very cluttered and messy and my parents don't go down there often. Haha, I think it commonly goes L x W x H. Regardless, 30 inches of vertical is wayy better than 15. Start thinking about how you plan to ventilate the space, what lights you intend to use, odor control for flowering and LST techniques. Good luck.
Odor control would be easy, just make a carbon filter and put it under the sink, they dont take up too much room. Also, if you want to buy seeds, even in the US, from on online bank, it is very easy, I did it and most other people on here that grow have done it. Watch your temperatures, because you will need to have a light in there and that wil produce a fair amount of heat in an inclosed space.
I just measured the cabinet below the sink and its about 25 in x 25 in x 25 in. There is also a little less room because of the sink dipping into it. I think I'm going to go with a hallowed out guitar amplifier speaker, it just seems like I'll have more wiggle room.
Don't grow at your parents house. That's tired. You can get them into tons of trouble, not to mention without a good carbon filter and a blower the whole house WILL smell like pot. Find somewhere outside, away from everyone and everything, and plant there. Don't tell your friends and just keep it to yourself. By the end of fall you'll have a pound or two. I don't want to sound like a bitch, but honestly your parents can lose their home over this if you get caught. It's not worth all of that.
Thanks for the advice. I still want to grow but if it seems dumb to do I won't. I was planning on growing in a cedar closet in my basement and just one plant inside a grow box, with proper ventilation. Will this still stink up my entire house?
It only takes 1 budding female to stink up a huge area. Like I said, there are strains you can get that don't smell half as bad as others. I agree, though. I don't know your parents, but knowing mine and many others close to me, growing in their house is a bad idea.
My father is pretty chill but I don't know if i want to test it with my mother. Will bagseed (unnamed mids) not smell as much as high end strains?
Bagseed will take on a similar smell of its parent crop, its genetic parentage. Whatever characteristics you see in the weed that has the seed will probably not be a good indicator of anything that may be useful to you. The washed down genetics of bagseed have vast variances. So, either research a strain that doesn't stink as much and buy it or plan to build an odor control device. Carbon scrubbers work wonders.
With the whole smell issue its really just the strain, Iv got 3 budding females in a closet and they have pretty much no smell (6th week of flowering to). They smell less then if I were to take a hit of some herb. The only time they smell is when I mess with them to water or prune.
Got a few mroe questions that i didn't think were worth starting a new thread for. What soil should I use? I read that I will need fertilizer if I don't use something like miracle grow, is it safe to use it?
I wouldn't use MG. Its very strong and has a lot of timed released ferts. I like to have control over what my plant gets when. I like fox farms ocean forest, you can usually find some at a hydro store.
You just need to pick up some nutes. Fox farm also has nutes. I would get the grow big, big bloom and tiger bloom. GB for veg and BB and TB for flowering.
You need to research the grow FAQ's found throughout this site. Most of the questions you have are already answered. Don't grow pot in your parents house without their knowledge, its disrespectful and invites more trouble than you could possibly know.
I've tried, and trust me its not a fun situation to be in at all when they do find out. Like TitaniumFox said, don't grow it in your parents house. Even though your growing it if the po-po find out they won't care. They will try to take your parents house and everything. It's not cool to put innocent people at risk. You may be able to pay the time for your so called crime, which is bs to begin with fck the man, put do you think your parents really could handle all that. Just wait till you get your own place to grow dude. In the mean time do a bunch of research and become informed on the subject. Sorry I don't mean to hate bro, just my thoughts on the subject.
