some advice for a first timer

i recently got my own apartment. it has a large storage closet approx 5x5x10. My main concern here is the smell, as family will be coming over occasionally. What's the best method for me here? The closet has 2 large hinged doors, so it is not sealed. if i put a humidifier in the closet would it mask the smell of 5 plants fully grown? my other option would be to build a growbox or wall in the room and use a carbon scrubber through the ventilation. Any thoughts on this or other ideas?
