I started my seeds off in MG and people keep saying bad idea. Why? What type of soil should I transplant in? People keep saying foxfarm. Where can I get that? What kind?
The search button is your friend... MG soil has time-released ferts built in, which can kill baby MJ plants. You don't need to use Fox Farm, but if you want to find it check out online or a hydro store.
He answered your question really. People don't like MG soil because it contains time released fertz. This means you cannot really control the amount and ratios of the fertz your plant gets. Foxfarm is a good soil but you don't have to use it. Call around to your local nurseries or hydroponic stores (if your fortunate enough to have one close by). Ask them if they have any good soil without pre-added nutes. I use sunshine mix no.1. It is fantastic and 15dollars for 40lbs of it. Found it by searching all the nurseries in my town. But coming from someone that has used MG soil before, DON'T use it. Stuff is shite imo. Burned the plants from the get go. And every bag i purchased was ridiculously infested with fungas gnats. Tis worth the search and maybe even a little drive for a better medium. Or you could order online. Either way. Good luck to you, Schism
Forgot to mention. When toasty refers to the "Search Button" he is talking about the search feature on this site. Just type in Key words and you will usually find what you are looking for.
Everyone always bashes on MG, and then I hear half of those people spouting off elaborate mixes that are much better. Yes, MG has a lot of time-released nutes in it, you can't control them accurately, and maintaining proper pH with the shit is nigh on impossible. BUT, if you "dilute" it, it will work. 1 bag MG 1 bag Perlite 1 bag Vermiculite and a scoop of Lime mix well It'll work and you shouldn't have to feed until you're ready to flower. Now gentlemen, you're free to bash me for giving the noob "bad"advice.
I will post a pic tomorrow. There sleeping tonight. 2 weeks into flowering from bag seed.... First grow and working well
The organic would probly do ok with some proper nutes. Its practically nuteless in the beginning anyhow. Add some perlite to that shit and I'm sure it would grow a plant.
^This. Something that's been asked a million times on this forum stands to reason has also been answered a million times on this forum. By growers.
I guess I lied if I said 100% mg organic. I used a 1/3 perlite 2/3 soil mix.... First grow and it's flowering nicely
What u mean? I picked alot of fans leaves off cuz they were blocking light to the bottom colas but the plant still looks healthy compared to what I've seen
Def good advice. From my brief experience u don't need to spend a ton to get some good smoke. If u want the dankest weed then u might want to look into spending more, but for me the mg works
Tih and Smokey, thanks for not bashing. I'm not very frequent to the site, I only check in every cpl weeks or so, but I often see guys w/ years of experience giving noobs very complicated advice. I'm a low-tech guy still doing things on the noob level, thusly that's the advice I give. I have little desire to grow the best bud ever, but to simply supply myself with decent smoke. And I've been doing just that with supplies bought at the local Home Depot for years.
Ya see, i appreciate people who dont bash, this was kinda nice to read, its so shitty when people are all like "if you do thatmy way your shit wont be as good as mine" or whatever blabber nonsense, i like every ones personal advice and tips, after all isnt the fun in this all of learning and trying, so what if you try something you dont fancy, oh well you learn and you might also learn what you can do to suit your own needs, afterall this is a really subjective type of cultivation IMO. idk sorry im baked. rambling
I exclusively use MG organic choice potting mix as my medium with very good results. I amend the MGOC with 1/3 perlite and some dolomite lime. I fertilize using the FF trio. It works very well for me. I have tried other MG soils and they are crap. Time release soils are horrible but the organic choice doesnt contain the time release pellets. MG organic choice is a good alternative to people who dont have access to FF or are on a tight budget.
