Is there any soil out there online that works great for plants that doesn't require any mixing? I ask for soil suggestions and I get lists of quantities and products that goes on forever.......is there any easier alternative?
Fox Farms Ocean Forest is a favorite for alot of people. Its got all the good stuff you need in a soil mix. Only thing I would add to it is a little bit more Perlite for aeration.
All of Fox Farms products are very good for growing marijuana. Mixing your own soil is the best way, but short of that I would get FFOF.
I was advised to use a 1 to 1 mix of FFOF & Happy Frog, no muss-no fuss for the newb like you & me. Worked good for me. S.S.
I have been using FFOF look at my journal with that rapid root growth in 7 days. The roots are coming out holes in bottom of grow bags. lol I didnt add anything to it, I think it has enough perlite in it for aeration. Look how my roots got to grow out the bag with out aeration... But FFOF is great just watch your nutes for a few weeks and don't over feed.
For an easy to find, cheap potting mix (not soil), get Miracle Gro Organic Choice or Miracle Gro Orchid Mix. Both types are suitable for growing tomatoes and they also work well with weed. Next, buy Perlite. Dampen the potting mix with hot water and add enough Perlite so that it doesn't stay clumped up in a ball when you squeeze the mix together in your palm. When it just crumbles apart instead of staying compact, you will have a nice, well-draining potting mix to use and your plants' roots will thrive.
I started with MG Organic Choice and within a couple weeks I had all kinds of weird bugs and mites crawling out of it. I flushed and repotted my plants with FFOF and have never had a problem since.
Roots Organic Soil. its good quality shit. they also make a soil called formula 707 check out some reports on it.
Miracle Burn is awful... stay away from it... Happy Frog is good for micro-organisms, FFOF is more of a rich veg soil... mixed together i could see how they'd provide a good balance... i personally mix my own soil cause i like having the control and learning what works best with what... but the base of it is Promix BX, which with some perlite works fine in and of itself... basically any good soil you get, add 25% perlite and it's probably good to go... the perlite lets it drain better and prevents root suffocation... the drainage is especially important outdoors to get rid of rainwater that can screw up nute feedings... my suggestion is some happy frog light warrior/25% perlite for seedlings, then switch to FFOF/25% perlite for the rest of the grow, and have a good nute line like Fox Farms or Earth Juice...
Attracting bugs is not a problem with the particular potting mix, it's a problem with your apartment. I never had a bug problem growing indoors; even if I use cow shit, I would'nt have a problem. It's important to keep a clean home. Clean home = no bugs on your plants. @Organic: I'm with you on the organic route, but you guys need to chill out and let people do what's convenient. Miracle Gro works, it's cheap and it's readily available. If someone wants to hunt down totally natural potting mix, that's their perogative, but most people don't give a fuck.
Im not sure if your reply about bugs was directed towards my comment but the bug problem was NOT from my house. My house is very clean and the bugs were coming out of the Miracle Grow soil and nowhere else. After switching to another soil I havent had a problem since and this was a year ago. Lots of people have complained about the same issue with MG soil.
I bought a bag of soil that was moldy and stale. It wasn't Miracle Gro. I returned it for a free replacement. It happens sometimes; it could be any soil that's contaminated.
not giving a fuck and getting MG soil has nute burned SO MANY PLANTS with all the time release ferts... I, personally, have a conscience and won't recommend something horrible for MJ to grow in... sorry for that
How will it burn the plant? The ratio of fertilizer in the soil is so insignificant that it could never burn the most delicate roots. It's like .02-.02-.02 or something. Adding enough fertilizer for mature plants, on top of what's already in the soil, is what burns your seedlings.
yea... exactly... to grow MJ you need to nute your plants... and you never know wtf is in the soil with MG... therefore it's a bad soil to grow in... and the time release always seems to hit right before flowering... I've never used it, cause I've seen thousands of plants sick from it... it's fine for seedlings... but once you start nuting it's a gd box of chocolates
+ rep Organic i feel your pain...That stuff is no good, make a mix if you are in a place that does not have many products available... I guess some people dont appreciate organic hahah
1) what is nute? 2) all potting mixes, mg or another brand, should contain minute amounts of time released fertilizer than feed up to 3 months min. - none of which can or will ever burn the most delicate seedlings or mature plants for that matter. 3) if you want to keep things completely 100% organic, go with homemade compost. I'm not backing MG, there are better choices, but it's convenient and it will not harm the plant no matter what you hear. What's more likely is that 100% organic compost will make your plant thrive much better than MG.
