  1. Hi guys ,i was just wandering if anyone had any advice on this lil problem im having ........basically ive got 4 seedlings about 4 days old in soil under 8 cfls ,my problem is my soil is drying out really really fast ,i waterd about an hour ago and allready the top of the soil is drying out ,my guess is that because the plants are so young the lights are very close to the soil and the heat is drying it up ,im hoping the bigger they get and the further the lights go from the soil the better it will be ? has anyone experienced the same problem ?

  2. how high is the temp?
have you tried watering from the bottom?
    do you have a fan?

  3. i heard somewhere putting a plastic covering over the top layer of soil will keep it from drying out so fast , maybe big pebbles?

  4. Market gardeners put down a straw mulch to keep their soil moist.

  5. Never water from the bottom! What spanishfly says is what you need to do.

Hey spanishfly haven't seen your witty brand of humor here in a while, go on vacation?

  6. thanks for the help guys ,i allso read that watering from bottom is a no no ,ive just had to move up the lights a bit so i think this problem will sort itself out the bigger the plants get . any way ive just finished a nice fat joint and now im off to eat my xmas dinner hmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmm happy xmas everyone :hello:

  7. you do not need that many cfl's this early in the grow. you can gat away with 2 and that will solve your drying soil issue. what I like to do is give one cfl per plant after a week of growing. this gives each plant its own light source. if you keep the plants relitively close together also ou can use the other cfl's to light all the plants and reduce lumen waste.
