ok so i am planning my outdoor grow...i have 30 fully fem. seeds and and 3 good spots to plant 10 per spot in...anyways...theyre all going in the ground...and i just cant seem to find a solid opinion on what to use for soil...for the holes in the ground...i am going to use a mix of FFOF (80%) and 20% perlite for added aeration and drainage ...but to start my ladies...i know that FFOF is too strong and i dont want to risk burning them...so what im thinking is this...i was planning to use promix to start them...but i have been reading and i think Fox farms light warrior would be better...it has some nutes but is a soiless mix and is good for seedlings and young plants...then i can just put them right into the FFOF once theyve been under the 400 watt HID light for a month...and are big and strong enough to take the stronger soil...anyways...just would like some thoughts on this...thanks! -CC also...cant seem to find a straight answer as to how many times per wk to water...any suggestions! thanks
This is what i use to germinate my seeds and it works quite well. 3 Parts Soil, Either Organic, or low in nutrients 3 Parts Earthworm Castings 1 Part Vermiculite If your keeping them for a month get bigger pots to put ur ladies in. a SOLO cup wont give them the right amount of root space for a month of growth, maybe 2 liters with the tops chopped off will give sufficient space. As for watering, u will have to check back and make sure the soil is moist, when the first inch is dry water them. It will change over time as how big they get and the weather conditions.
ok great! thanks for the info...my plan was more or less to do what you mentioned...thats why i wanted to go with light warrior...because it is a soil less mix fortified with earthworm castings and small amts. of other nutes and minerals perfect for seedlings...i was only going to keep them in solo cups for 1.5-2 wks under a flouro light and then put them into 1 gallon pots and under a 400 watt HID lamp for the remainder of the month of may...then once june rolls around and it is warm enough...i was just going to plant them directly into holes in the ground (2x2) filled with FFOF soil, perlite, and some polymer crystals to hold water... and then throw on the first stage of time released ferts. by advanced nutes...for anyone who hasnt seen them or who has used them...here is the link...also...i was going to put about 4 inches of cedar bark mulch around the plants once theyre in the ground to lock in moisture! LINK: advanced nutrients heavy harvest this stuff looks great! Heavy Harvest - Hydroponics Nutrients, Organic Nutrients
I am going to try that stuff out this year, I got 60 Danky Doodle Seeds hoping for atleast 40 females. When u keep em indoors and are getting ready to put them outdoors , I would give them like 4 hours of natural sunlight per day for 2 days just so it wont stun them and possibly kill them, then put them outdoors in their final spot. I am going to use the Heavy Harvest Spring, Fall Summer. and The Bud ignitor(see if it really works) Bud Candy(Seen peoples buds swell up 25% more in size) and just a normal flush to get all the nasty nutes out the buds. 1/6 vermiculite 1/6 rubble 1/3 Peat moss 1/3 FFOF Add Lime Half Cups Bone Meal/Blood Meal Few cups of Worm Castings That mix their should provide good aeration but also hold in moisture for a while, with that i plan on watering hopefully 1 time a week.
ya thats what i would like to do...to harden them off...only thing is where i will be starting them off...there really isnt a safe or secluded place to put them outside and then bring them back in...however, would you recommend if i put them outside...(there is an old abandoned-semi broken down hunting camp by one of my grow plots) of leaving them out there for the day then putting them in there at night...i could even construct something to leave over them and cover with a blanket to keep them warm at night...or would i need to put the plants back under the lights once i start hardening them off?
hmmm idk if this would work and im high as shit righ tnow but. U could possibly set them in the window, inside to where they are getting sunlight, u could do this in the morning in u have a east pointing window and also at evening with a west pointed window. On your thought, that could work but im not sure
well i just did some reading...it seems like once they are big enough a lot of people just move them out doors...to a shaded spot for a day or so...just so they arent recieving direct light..then move them to a semi-shaded area...then finally for the last day or so b4 going in the holes...move them to a fully sunny area...i remember when i grew last summer with my friend...we had to move them outdoors b/c our land lord found them...and we just popped them outside along the tree line in direct light since we couldnt move them from spot to spot and they were fine.
Here is something to think about. Get some VAM (Mycorrhizae) and the "inoculate" the roots (by soaking them in VAM for 30 minutes or so.) Once the roots are colonized by the VAM, you will notice that a few things happen. 1-You will have roots like you never had before. 2-you will require approx 70% less water - due to the fact you have so much more root surface area. 3-you'll be able to add more perlite to the FFOF, so you can really easily bring the o2 down to the roots. 4-and this is a big one. You'll have an increase in your yield. & finally, you will need less nutes. *Just an old man's thoughts.
Good soil is not Miracle Grow. Personally, I use Fox Farms. Ocean Forest is real good, Happy Frog is loaded with microbes and also good, Light warrior is like a weak version of Ocean Forest. Get a bag of worm castings $25ish for a 20 pound bag. I'd make the worm castings 20~25% of the pile. Perlite 45~50% of the pile. Balance is your soil. Add 1 measured cup of 10-2-1 and a measured cup of 0-12-1 guano, add a tablespoon of VAM and gently but thoroughly mix all together. Don't be afraid to smoke a joint while you are doing this. Sorry, I'm stoned
