SOG with two rooms

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by kenreeg1, Mar 6, 2007.

  1. After my first grow I've decided to go with the SOG way. Im going to be getting 3 general hydroponic Rainforest 318 site. They each take 18 plants, making that 54 plants.
Would it be wise to get more plant site packed in there, like the rainforest 236, which holds 36 plants a site, thus 108 clones. I have 2 digital ballast with 1-400 watt mh and 1-430 watt enhanced hps running.
IF a 400 watt lights cover 4'x4' areas, my 8 foot by 7 foot shed should be pretty much covered by 2 400 watt lights. So would another system be sensible or is that packing it to tightly?

On the set up of the system: Two grow rooms which are equal size with the HID lights being put into the flowering room. In the Veg room we would have our clones propagating under a EZ Cloner system and our 3 mother plants, all under fluro lights. I was thinking of just using racks for the clones to go under when they are done with being in the EZ Cloner. Would 2 30 watt CFLs work for 20 little clones just to get them to 12 inches.
Lol , sorry to ask so many question so this will hopefully be my last. Seeing as I only bought one Co2 system, would it make more sense to put the co2 in the flowering room, right? Since Co2 only increases weight, not quality of the bud, it would make more sense to go in there, from what I've heard.

The first picture is of the first system suggested and the 2nd pic the second system. Ebb and flow systems have crossed my mind too. Money isnt a problem for this set up so any input is welcome.

  2. 1 400 watter can sucessfully grow from start to finish bout 10 plants... and thats packed in!

you arent gonna get what you want outta them, the plants are gonna be crouded as shit and arent gonna have enough light. a 600 in the middle of a 1000 on each side with the 2 400's in the middle would be nice...

and man talk about jumpin right in!

  3. lol yes i know..
Thanks for the input. So i guess using the 318 rainforest would be better, but thats pushing it. I think having 3 lights in there is to much, i thought the 2 400 watters could make it for the 40-50 plants.

  4. [quote name='deafeningsilanc']1 400 watter can successfully grow from start to finish bout 10 plants... and thats packed in!

True SOG involves "Packin' them in there" I have done 63 at a time under a single 430 Son-Agro in a closet many times.....and I have also grown 1 under a 1000 watter (she was a beast grown in a 55 gallon drum took up most of a bedroom) ....how many fit is up to you... :D

  5. I've only done soil grows so this is a mystery to me. My question is, would the roots be getting all tangled up with eachother be a problem? I can see the canopy being dealt with with enough light but the resivoir would be crowded as hell in those rainforest systems. hmm. Im considering a hydro grow so am trying to learn myself.

  6. Thanks for the input guys, Dr. Green, i thought packing it in was the whole idea to it as well. It just came upon me though that an Ebb and flow system would be much easier to take care of- like changing the water out- with a container as opposed to having to move the plants to get into the system itself like in the rainforest set up. Thanks for the input

  7. id love to see more light on em to get those buds big and beefy.

  8. Well.... I do have another 400 watt regular ballast switchable MH/HPS, so maybe i could throw that in there, but i was just thinking with 3 lights going, thats sucking up a crap load of power.

On another note, I think ive decided to go with an ebb and flow table, and like Dr.greenbud said, "pack it in", using a 4x4 tray, im figuring ide be able to stick 20 clones in with each of them in 1 inch rockwool cubes. So if i go with ebb and flow im going to be getting two of the systems with 2 lights, possibly 3.This sound reasonable?

  9. yea i can see your power issue, but then again i then again mr postman said a small ceramic space heater uses like 1500 watts... and its winter where i am!

air conditioners use a lot too... another 400 will greatly benefit your babies, just figure out how to cut down on other uses. shut your CPU down when you arent using it. turn the heat down a few degrees when you arnet home... shit like that and youd be fine.

gluck and if you dont post pics when you are all setup im gonna find you! haha

  10. The avg. single family home has 45 light bulbs inside at 60 watts each thats 2700 watts used.... replace them with 13 watt CFL's for a total of 585 watts that leaves ya' 2115 watts to "Play" with and no increase in yer' bill

  11. agreed i switched all my house bulbs to 10 watters and am using a 400 watt and a fan and a carbon scrubber and my bill was cut in almost half:hello:

  12. damn, thank you guys so much for the info... my family was just having a family medicate session, relaxin out and my mom was pointing out that i was using a ceramic heater this whole time( its gets chilly in nor cal sometime-like low as 25 at where im at) and it was using 1600 watts. I'de rather spend a few hours insulating my shed then work a weeks worth of a paycheck to pay a 700 PG&E bill, no joke.

Thanks for the input guys, I still have a question though that hasn't been replied to: Better to go with an ebb and flow style system for SOG grow or will the rainforest style hydroponic system work well? Oh yea im gonna be usin flora nova for nutes on this, but only for bloom, I've read up on Flora Nova grow and heard its shitty. I guess Ill stay with GH for veg.

  13. Decided to go with ebb and flow tables. Two 3x3 tables with 30 gallon res. each, Im guessin i could pack in about 30 clones on their with the two, anyone agree?

  14. 30 clones EZ......:)

Do ya have a mother plant ready? when ya' can produce enuff clones to do it try a real SOG....:D
depending on how you build yer' tables 81- 4"x4" Wool cubes will fit in a 3'x3' table....flower as soon as they are rooted they will grow into a true SOG spike .....with no branches and very few leaves (we don't smoke sticks and leaf) mine were 6.2-10.4 grams dried each.....Avg.8.3 grams per 78 on a table thats 22.5 Oz's now ya' won't do that until ya' know the strain inside and out.....but think about 3.5 to 5 grams per would be 9.5 to 13.5 Oz's per 400 watts

And a "Perpetual Harvest" is now an option.....12/12 all the time on the tables and just rotate (clones) in and out of the room as they finish.....I had some that finished in 6 weeks,8 weeks,9.5 weeks and a Haze/NL#5 that took 17 weeks all on the same table mine was a 4'x12' table with 3-430's

  15. thanks for the advice Doc. Im going to go with a 600 watters instead of 400's, so it will be 2 600 watt digital ballast with both mh and hps.the clones are already coming in 1 inch rockwool cubes, so im guessing you could pack quite a bit on 3'x3' table. Im gonna stick with 20 on each table i think.
As the whole process gets going and goes smoothly im gonna to be putting clones in at different times so that every week or 10 days i can have a harvest of some bud, whatever the amount.

  16. So i got a question about feeding the plants. Im using ebb and flow and i got two giant res. and if i have 10 plants in week 8 of flowering and i got some plants in week 3 of flowering, what would be a good nutrient strength for it? i was guessin around 800-1000 ppm .

  17. hey doc...so im wondering if i can sog 18-36 plants in this rainforest 236 or 318 systems?..i keep hearing that it cant be done but i really think i may be able..my plants are 3ft and less at harvest now in organic soil, i veg for 4-6 weeks b4 flowering....im just wanting to flower more and alittle faster by cutting some time...im happy with my organic soil, it just takes up valuable space...am i barking up the wrong tree with this idea doc?

  18. I apologize in advance if this comes off as totally dick but I'm a Latin teacher and so much correct your sig. tag "Qui me amat...amet et Canus meum" which I assume you mean to say 'whoever loves me should also love my dog' better Latin would be "Qui me amat...amet et canem meum" small but significant difference.
