Or maby it is the other way around.

Our "Pledge to Allegiance" was written by Francis Bellamy, who was apart of the christian socialist party and was a baptist minister. In the pledge he expressed the ideas written by his brother, Edward Bellamy, who wrote many popular American socialist utopian novels Looking Backward and Equality. Francis Bellamy in his sermons and lectures and Edward Bellamy in his novels and articles described in detail how the middle class could create a planned economy with political, social and economic equality for all. The government would run a peace time economy similar to our present military industrial complex.

The only reason why the pledge is done in schools is because in Boston Fracis was also part of the committee of state superintendents of education in the National Education Association.

The true original pledge he wrote went like this:

'I pledge allegiance to my Flag, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with equality, liberty and justice for all.'

The equality was edited out by his superiors, because at that time, people did not want blacks and women equel rights.

There you have it, a socialist wrote the pledge, your thoughts?

  2. It doesn't bother me... However, I am a socialist...

I don't see what the big deal is... Does it like bother you or something thta a socialist wriote the pledge?

  3. oh shit man a socialist wrote the pledge! not way!

    ...so whats wrong with that...?

  4. Oh shit didnt think america was an empire.

  5. Shouldn't the ideals of a nation be decided by it's people?

I'm not even referring to the constitution or anything, I'm aware of the democracy / republic dichotomy.

  6. so what exactly is the other way around for this statement then: "Socialism is invading American ideals"....?

  7. "_And to the republic, for which it stands."

Look up all the current standing non-Marxist/Stalinist socialist states.
    You'll find 'republic' quite repetitive.

It's really not a stretch, regardless of one beliefs, to see America has a history in socialism.

    @Stonerish:
My guess would be, America was first a socialist abiding state; then taking ideals saw fit for a democratic order. If memory serves me, the first thirteen colonies were communistic.

  8. We live in a republic, a republic of states under one nation, much like Rome.

It has nothing to do with marx.

Merely attempting to show socialism was still a floating idea when legislation was being formed.
This ideology was around way before Marx, all the way back to the aristocratic communism of Greek.

edit: I thought i made that clear by saying "non-Marxist/Stalinist", oh well.

  10. I prefer socialism to capitalism....... something about accumulated wealth turns me off.

  11. Strictly speaking, the Soviet Union was a republic.

In practical terms, republic means not having a monarch as head of state. It got nothing to do with democracy. A republic may be democratic, but it may also be totalitarian.

And whatever may happen in the US to handle the finacial crisis, it isn't communism. Get over it. Putting curbs on a system gone wild and now failing, is a good thing. It is making change.

Getting a grip on foreign debt is also a good thing. A lot need to be confronted and tackled with regards to the US and indeed the world economy.

In that regard, Obama holds a lot more credibility and goodwill than McCain could ever hope for.

World finance do not look good, but I'm hoping a competent POTUS may steer things back on track :)

Fuck, we need the US, get a grip and get it right FFS :)

  12. Yeah, that is the one bad thing about our economical stance right now, when we suffer the whole world feels the brunt of it. Making everyone suffer, I just want someone to get ahold of our debt, and only one president ever has actually truelly impeded the debt, many tried but it is like taking the bull by the horns. I fear that a crash is inevitable, like a false since of security is being casted since Obama's win.

When Bush came to the realisation about things in his canidacy he did wrong, I said yep shit is bad right now. Mr pride himself is retracting things about his presidency while in presidency and the man looks like he aged like 25 years since first year to now.

Maby the GOP will endorse a true progressive, to cut the baby fat off of Obama new plans after he is out. I can only hope.

  13. My view is, whatever system involves taking a shit on the working class citizen is no system that I want to be under.

  14. Laissez-faire capitalism ftw. Socialism ftl.

  15. uh-oh.. looks like more people want socialism, crap!

do u want more gov?? that what socialism is all about, it like commie, gov owns everything..

the reason why we're failing cause of stupid gov tricking u and using us, that not capitalism is all about. capitalism is not really slavery. if u want to be rich then u gotta go study to become lawyer, sciencist, its FREEDOM OF CHOICE!
the best way is liberty, less gov, more power to the people and follow the constitution...

if we became socialism, i'll seriously go on killing spree

  16. you are quite an anomaly in respect to modern society.
