My apologies. Why Did Al Jazeera Pay $500 Million for Al Gore Here's another view of it. http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2012/10/01/264405/qatari-owner-dictates-aljazeera-policy/
I think you should check whats happening again. Al Jazeera bought the television channel "Current TV" from Al Gore. Also, I'm total cereal guys - Al Jazeera is one of the best mainstream media sources I know of. It reports on the stuff the U.S. mainstream leaves out. Highly recommend checkin it out.
I wouldn't say "just like" every msm source, as they do cover a lot of what the msm ignores. You just have to understand they have an agenda behind their reporting. As with any news article, you need to research multiple sources to stay informed and read past the bias.
Maybe Current TV will be watchable now. $500 million seems a lot for a pile of shit but I can only assume it's a win-win agreement.
It is noticable in their documentaries that they more often critize Israel than Palestine. Actually I wouldn't really call it outright criticism, they just show a lot of the suffering of the Palestinians. Like any other news source, they subjectively pick their subject matter. So they are bias in what topics they choose to cover, but they seem very neutral in how they cover those subjects. In their news reports, they take a pretty factual approach and tell you how all sides involved are responding to events. Opinions seem to be limited to debates. I watch Al Jazeera every day on tv, along with the Dutch independent public news channel. On school days I also read a newspaper on the train. It definately helps expose to me how some news sources are a complete waste of time and are counter-productive. They are "informative" entertainment but their information is wrong or irrelevant so all that's left is a pathetic excuse for entertainment.
I was out of town for a little while recently and I got to watch Al Jazeera and RT a little bit. After masochistically subjecting myself to MSNBC, FOX & CNN, seeing Al Jazeera and RT on TV was amazing. It was like I was a caveman seeing fire for the time or something. Don't get me wrong - RT & Al Jazeera are of course biased in their own ways too. Al Jazeera is funded by the Qatar regime and it is slanted in its reporting - being critical of the those Qatar is not friendly with and being uncritical of those Qatar is friendly with. Though that same general bias applies to the US media too. See: the dearth of US reporting on the actions of the Bahrain regime.
I've been fortunate to travel a little bit over my lifetime and I think the quality of news in Europe is way better than what we have in North America.
I have no complaints. They're government sponsored channels that are not bound by financial interests and the government cannot decide what is shown, they simply have to fund them. This way you get channels with awesome television. Things like breaking bad are also shown on these channels. They even have a show where the hosts try every drug and talk about weird sex stuff. There's 3 of these channels and they're free so if you don't have a cable subscription you can still watch them. They aslo have great documentaries, like Louis Theroux and Planet Earth. They only show commercials in between shows too. I watch their news broadcasts for my national news and Al Jazeera for international news.
