So Many People On This Board Seem To Believe in "Karma"

Discussion in 'General' started by TLF1088, Jun 5, 2009.

  1. There are at least two or three posts I open everyday where someone makes a reply to something another posters did, or something of the sorts, and mentions karma.

Is this a concept that goes hand in hand with a lot of people who smoke?

Frankly I think it's one of the most ridiculous concepts out there, has no truth to it at all, and I'm sick of being told if I do something "wrong" I'm going to get bad "karma."

  2. Yeah, karma is bullshit its all about morality...do YOU feel bad for what you did.

  3. I can create 1000 threads about stuff other people believe in but I do not like.:rolleyes:

Yet im not going to do it,

I guess I just want the good "Karma" :hello:

  4. Fuck morality. I dont believe in that shit.

Karma isnt that unfounded. Now morality is. I dont want to insult anyones beliefs so Ill stop here

  5. What goes around comes around man.

Karma isn't even close to the most ridiculous belief out there.

  6. Right except I was making this thread for a specific reason, I see "karma" brought up in a large number of posts daily on this thread. I post on a lot of message boards and rarely see anyone mention "karma."

Yet I see it numerous times a day here.

  8. There is no force in the universe that makes things "come around."

  9. Who said there was a force? I'm not saying I believe in Karma, I'm just saying that what seems to be "Karma" happens.

Do I care? No. I'm going to do whatever I think is right, karma or no karma.

  10. I'm not sure I buy into the supernatural view of karma. However, the idea works really well with social situations. You act like a dick, people are going to treat you like one. Just reward for your actions. I like to think that if you're generally a nice person, generally people will be nice to you.

So do I believe that if I'm a good person, I'll generally be luckier than someone who is an asshole? No. But I do believe if you act like an asshole, people will treat you differently.

  11. I don't believe in karma on a mystical level, but people that are jerks generaly get whats coming to them.

  12. I don't believe in karma..

The truth is, people treat each other shitty all the time and don't get anything 'bad' in return. I've treated people nicely all my life (for the most part) and haven't gotten nice 'shit' in return. :p

Life isn't fair, like it or not, and I don't need 'karma' to justify treating someone nicely, or to prevent me from being a jerk (when 'necessary'). Plus in the words of Sam Spade: "I don't subscribe to eastern archaic religions" (or even 'superstitions', if you want).

Of course, getting 'rewarded' or 'punished' in the 'afterlife' is a whole other thing that I wont get into..

  13. QFT.
life is all about maximizing utility and karma doesn't fit into that. good things happen to bad people, bad things happen to good people. if you're smart and make good decisions you can minimize the variance in your life and chances are you'll make it out on top.

I think "karma" is basically a term for a natural "phenomenon".

    An elementary example:
If you do bad things to those around you, they are going to treat you the same in return.

I can see how both sides could be well supported. I believe in it to an extent. Sort-of like an aurora or body's "vibrations" because positive or negative.

    But I ammm :smoking:

  15. karma is just a very exaggerated generalization.

There are plenty of people who do terrible shit in life and live amazing lives. I thought what goes around comes around?

  16. Right.

And seriously, if people are un-liked because they treat others shitty, is that really karma?

  17.

i don't know why, but yeah.
anyway, not going to lie... i do agree with it.
but to each his own. cheers!

  18. sometimes i start to see the truth in karma, but then i consider shit like innocent children getting killed in some African conflict and wonder what they did to deserve that. their karma couldn't have been that bad at all.

it's very confusing. then i just get depressed thinking about those kids. fuck

  19. sigh... so many people just don't understand the concept of karma. I find those are generally the people who don't beleive in it.

"what goes around comes around" is a simplified, stupified, western phrase that really has no business being connected with the term "karma"

  20. if you think rationally then the idea of some mystical "go around come around" energy is about as believable as most religions.

but whatever. i think its funny when someone says he ol 'what goes around comes around' sentence to me. its a joke.

the guy who cut you off on the highway isnt going to get cut off in 10 miles because of karma. if he does get cut off its because the person who did it was just a dick. just like the other guy. and no, karma didnt place them there at the same time. thats retarded.

shit happens. randomly. some good, some bad, some unbelievably fucked up.
    it just happens.
    accept it.

now, i have some very important business in ufc undisputed 2k9 to attend to..
