So I'm going LED, brand recomendations?

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by Wonka, Mar 27, 2012.

  1. Well, I've watched grows before with several different LED brands.

Frankly I know I want something made in America, sorry foreign companies, I support my own. Anyways, yea, going LED for a grow. I have a few different lights I was looking at. Oh, it will most likely be 2 to 4 plants, non-auto's, heigh in the room is about to 8 to 9 feet. So I have room to work with.

Anyways with all that said here's the list.

    - 2 of the hydro grow penetrator 21x-pro
    - 1 hydro grow, penetrator 84x
    - 1 hydro grow, penetrator 84x-pro
    - 1 hydro grow, penetrator 126x ECO+
    - 1 hydro grow, penetrator 126x

    - 2 blackstar LED 240 watt (not clone and veg model)
    - 1 blackstar LED 500 watt (not clone and veg model)

    - 1 Grow LED hydro, spectra LED 180
    - 1 Grow LED hydro, spectra LED 290

    - 2 Advanced LED Lights, diamond series 100 watt
    - 1 Advanced LED Lights, diamond series 200 watt
    - 1 Advanced LED Lights, 180 watt Extreme LED 11 band

    - 1 ProSource, illuminator jumbo UFO 180 watt

I'm leaning towards hydro grow or blackstar to be honest, but any experiences with these? Or experience if having 2 lights of lesser power is better than one stronger light or viceversa. And no I don't have a budget to do anything more than what I've listed, and I'm not buying cfl's, or HPS, MH, florescent, this is going to be an all LED set up, the only non LED they'll see is maybe a florescent germination bulb, and the rooms normal lighting. Also going to be all organic so whoo.

  2. I'm sorry, for how frustrated you're about to be over my questions but I'm not nearly smarter than you.
You need all of these lights for your four plant setup?

    - 2 of the hydro grow penetrator 21x-pro
    - 1 hydro grow, penetrator 84x
    - 1 hydro grow, penetrator 84x-pro
    - 1 hydro grow, penetrator 126x ECO+
    - 1 hydro grow, penetrator 126x

    - 2 blackstar LED 240 watt (not clone and veg model)
    - 1 blackstar LED 500 watt (not clone and veg model)

    - 1 Grow LED hydro, spectra LED 180
    - 1 Grow LED hydro, spectra LED 290

    - 2 Advanced LED Lights, diamond series 100 watt
    - 1 Advanced LED Lights, diamond series 200 watt
    - 1 Advanced LED Lights, 180 watt Extreme LED 11 band

    - 1 ProSource, illuminator jumbo UFO 180 watt

What price range are you in? Does this include your flowering lights?

Ha, I wish, no, each " - " represents a possible option for lighting, I will not be combining any of those individual set-ups.

And yep, it will be both veg and flowering, I was thinking the spectra's because I could change the lighting settings actually.

price range, lets just highball it at $800 usd, but I'd prefer to be around 600$ and take away from nutrient money.

  4. If you were working with the same space but only wanted 3 small plants, Which LED/ bulb combo would you suggest for veg and flower?

  5. I don't know, that's why I'm asking for recommendations on which set up would be ideal for me.

  6. That awkward moment when someone asks you a question high and you answer them with the same question. Sorry man just trying to get educated. I'm going to check out some local hydro stores and see what they think about it.

  7. Both of you should look at the 357w magnum. I have had a couple friends who used them and they worked amazing. It's also switchable between veg & flowering and full spectrum.

  8. That looks like a great light man. But unlike OP I do.have a price range around 200$. Is it even possible to get a full LED setup with 200$ or should I switxy to T5's?

  9. the 357 magnum I'd love to get, but I'm trying to avoid getting the most expensive LED, when there's less expensive options that still are about equivalent . Not saying it's a bad light, they're just leaving me no room for nutes, or my bucket set up and whatnot. I really should have said a $700 budget for the lights maximum budget. I would so have the 357 if I could.

  10. Best bang for the buck is blackstar man. I'm about to get the 240w it's at the local shop and amazon for 290 get 2 of them for a 4x4 area so then you got a badass amount of light also and nice size yield for less the 600. And if you budget is under 200 you could get a UFO and cfl's to supplement it.

  11. I have a 4x2 room to use would just one of those 240w blackstar units be enough for flower and beg?

  12. Yeah that's 8 sq. ft so it will work great. How many plants are you trying to grow in that kind of space?

  13. And are you flowering and veg in the same room the blackstar is either veg or flower not both. You can buy a couple ufos for the same price get a flowering and veg one. I have seen a couple people grow 2 small plants with just one of them when lst

  14. 2 Max 3

  15. Oh I had no idea. I planner on just using one light that was full spectrum. What 2 UFO' do you suggest?

  16. You won't be able to get any less expensive LEDs made in the USA. Not even sure many of the more expensive ones are truly made here. Blackstars are not, Advanced might be but there is speculation, not sure of the other two you speak of.

  17. Why does it matter if it's from the us? As long as it has the right wavelength and the right spectrum and it has good cooling along with a correct heat sink and the correct angle and watt led. And by the way black star is made lighthouse hydro.

Quite simply because I don't like the attitude of people who just buy what works, I want something made proudly in the country I live in, plus easier to deal with, with shipping that way, and all the manufacturers being based in .

Ah, than 1 to 2 lights will do for 2 to 3 plants, I'd say 1 light for 1 plant, anything more, and 2 would most likely be needed.

I'm leaning towards a combo of 2 lights for my situation instead of just one bigger one. Blackstar seems to be ideal along with the penetrator 21x's

  19. You can do 2 plants with one of the mid range models, like the Blackstar 240. Of course two would be better, but I thought you were trying to save money?

  20. Alright man go for what you can then. I never have to deal with shipping I just go up the street to the store and buy everything. The hydro stores are stocked like crazy where I live. Just remember its not about the other people it's about the quality of the product. I guess I feel like that because I have seen black star, mag, penetrator and more all in person so I know how they are. And by the way black star is just a name for a series it's all made by lighthouse hydro which is in new York. Look up the facts before you try and tell people it. It make you look less stupid in the future.
