So, I think I'm gonna do it.....

  1. Enlist in the armed services, that is. I have recently come to the conclusion that without something to get me out of the hole I'm in (owing money to a university, to the hospital and bills I really can't afford) I won't ever get back to level ground.

I started looking into the Navy and found a career path I'd enjoy. It's the same field I was working at in college and plus it would be a good source of income and a stable environment that would straighten me out. Discipline is not so much my problem, I'm very polite and mannered but I need to be motivated and the military would definitely do that. I like routines and having everything planned out so I think I would fall into the groove very easily. I'm not worried about the physical training or anything 'cause I'm not out of shape or anything.

Also, I'm turning 21 in June so I have vowed to be clean by my 21st birthday and if I can pass a self-administered drug test I will then go to enlist for sure. I will let you guys know how everything works out and keep you updated on my journey of becoming, and staying, clean.

This is the career I want to train for while in the Navy:

  2. Yo man, make sure you get some contract bonuses for that college man. Like yeah, contract promotion and signing bonus. ;) Haha or go officer, much better pay. :p

Just member man if it's not in writing it dun mean shit. Oh and medical sux! XD
The chow isn't as bad as it seems, at least they say. ;)

Bwahahaha. The military will give you some good experiences.

  3. be in the coast guard!

  4. Im joining Navy after I get my BA which is in a couple years, goin to OCS, then takin the SEAL challenge :smoke: I look foreward to my future in the Navy good luck with yours Bro

  5. Thanks for the encouragement dude. Good luck to you too and I hope you end up becoming a SEAL cause that would be badass.

I know the Navy has some short enlistment periods, like 2 years min. or something. So I'm gonna go for the shortest amount of time and test the waters. They say most people, at the end of their term, usually reenlist because they like it and want to continue in their career path. I wanted to choose something that I could also apply to life outside of the military. If you go in and do something involving combat and shit then what are you gonna do after you get out? Unless you stay in and retire there's not much left for you to do once you're a civilian again.

LMFAO. Yeah, I can see how you would want to be able to go that route. Sounds like a good rate, BUT you're not getting anywhere near a good command (ones bolded) until you do many many many many years in the navy.

The quality of life in the navy sucks man. Living conditions are horrible, and there's more drama than a MTV reality show. It's amazing how many immature people are serving.

Take my advice and please (if you decide) join the coast guard or air force. You will want to lick my balls and thank me later. Fuck the navy, fuck the army, fuck the marines.

Have you even taken the ASVAB yet? I just saw the CNO give a brief to my command a few weeks ago. The navy is trying to trim the fat and kick thousands of people out. Chill rates are going to vanish. Reenlistment bonus' have already completely gone away. I was up for 60k reenlistment and overnight it went to ZERO.

If you do join, make sure it's ONLY four years. I got fucked into 6 years active. Oh yeah, I highly recommend joining the reserves instead of active duty.

... The two year contract you're talking about is called Call to Service (or something along those lines), but you have to do another 2,4, or 6 years reserve. And if you want to become an officer, skip OCS. It's the worst officer program. Go to the academy, or a seaman-to-admiral program.

I was set on doing 20 and retiring. I will give the Navy this much credit, the work is fucking easy. And if you stay in, you will most likely see a lot of the world, but once I actually lived it, I realized that the only place I get to see is the US and the Middle East. I'm getting out in a few years and living off the G.I. bill. Fuck this noise.

  7. your university payments are only differed until you leave the services

  8. Thats the purpose of my BA (business major) As for jobs after combat i could always become a PMC :smoking:

Theres also alot of other options I have personally :D

  9. Not trying to burst your bubble OP but... i had a couple of friends who joined the navy all optimistic and what not, thinking they were going to have the times of their lives.Turns out their recruiting officers screwed them/lied to them just to get them to join ended up being stationed on a dry dock for years.Finish college and than join the navy as an officer instead of wasting what you have already done.

  10. Well I would go to the Academy other than the fact they don't take transfers meaning all my credits go to shit. Also wtf is seamen to admiral program?

It's only offered to prior enlisted people. You have to be the rank of E-5 and have a few years in. If you want to do it, the Navy will send you to pretty much any college and pay for it. You are required to complete a BA degree in 3 years and a few ROTC classes.

You come back as an Engisn and get officer + enlisted pay. If you go this route, there's a very high chance that you'll be in for 20 years.

  12. Required 20 years or like ill end up staying in for 20 years cause I doubt that

  13. You'll end up re-enlisting for 6. You'll be at your ten year mark, and at that point you could bang out another ten and retire.

  14. We'll see :D

The thing is, I'm not going to finish college. I flunked out of the university I was going to, or actually I just never went to class and never had any grades period. So now I owe money back for a loan, which is like 1,200. I'm only in community college now and I've been paying cash each semester for it so I don't owe money for that.

I'm not being "optimistic" and having wishful thoughts. I just need a way to get out of this town and make more money and be a better person. I will look into what the Coast Guard offers and see if it might be different. I plan to go to the recruiting office and just see what they have to say about the Navy. If worse comes to worse I probably won't even enlist.

Also, I found the same shit for the Coast Guard that I would be doing in the Navy. I've been into journalism and writing and want to do that for a living so I guess I could start in the military and get my shit straight and then venture out into the real world. Right now I don't really like going to school and working a dead-end job. The military might be something else I'd like, just give me something worth while to do and also better myself while I'm in there.

  16. My friend is in the navy stationed in japan now. He says its pretty cool.

  17. I plan on joining the Navy as well. My gpa is fucked, so i'm getting my diploma through online courses. One thing I was a bit inquisitive about, how strict is the drug testing for ROTC while you're in college?

  18. How strict? It's a zero tolerance policy dude. If you fail one test, you lose everything.

  19. Community College it is.

  20. Doooo coaaast guaard
