So I just got fired today - my rant.

  1. So until today I worked in a sawmill, and a shitty one at that. For instance - the AVERAGE local wages for a sawmill worker are about $12/hr. Where I was employed, they start us out at $8, after 30-days we get a raise to $9, and then after one year you get $10. No more raises after one year. No bullshit either - Bobby worked there for 7 years, still makin' $10. Brad worked there for 3 years... still makin' $10. No benefits, no insurance.... it was a job to tide me over for hard times. Nothing more.

Well, hard times aren't over yet. Recent statistics say that 75% of all young Americans will not be able to find employment this summer. Well that's just fucking fantastic - I'm a young American. And I have bills to pay.

So anyway, let's get up to the story as to why I got fired. Basically - I started getting tired of the supervisors favoritism bullshit. I'm not exaggerating when I say I was the hardest worker they had - but because I wasn't a hick/redneck, because I didn't go hunting and drive a old shitty lifted truck, I wasn't "in" with the boss.

One instance - I got to my lunch break 20 minutes late (30 minute lunch) because I was TOLD to go change the chain on the chainsaw. I get to the break room, heat my lunch up and barely scarf it down in 10 minutes before I'm told to get back out on the floor - while still getting docked 30-mins for my lunch. Another instance was when we were late getting to break (due to work) and after 5 minutes (of a 15 minute break) the supervisor comes outside and chews me and another worker out for "being late" when we still had another 10 minutes for break. Immediately afterward, and right in front of both of us, he went over to another truck and started patting his "buddies" on the back and bullshitting. These buddies are just fellow co-workers, not supervisors or anything. Petty small shit like this daily started to get to me. So my "perfect attendance" record started to slip as I cared less and less about being the model employee.

Then I got really pissed off. A fellow co-worker and I butted heads. He was one of the supervisors favorites - and didn't do shit at work. Well I have a hearing impairment and am legally "deaf" even though I communicate in spoken English on a day-to-day basis. Right in front of the supervisor one day, Rob (the co-worker) called me a "deaf bitch" right in front of the supervisor in the break room. I restrained myself and approached the supervisor after break and confronted him about allowing such things to happen. Rob was never punished. A few days later he did it again, something along the lines of "well, at least I can hear." Once again, right in front of the supervisor. Well I had enough. Grabbed that bitch by his throat and slammed his ass in to the ground daring him to 'say it again, bitch.' Nobody was punished for that.

However... today. I was on my way to work (4:30 AM)after being sick the last two days, and when I was bout 2 miles away in the country, I got a flat tire. And I didn't have a spare. Walked about 1.5 mile before someone stopped and allowed me to call my girlfriend (who has AAA). Anyway, by the time AAA got my vehicle home, it was about 9:30 AM. I called my work and told them what happened and asked if I still had a job. The supervisor then responded "No, I thought you quit." That response tells me two things - I'm fired. They don't want to pay unemployment. I called in BOTH days that I was sick so he knew I didn't quit.

So now I pick up my last paycheck tomorrow. I'm going to demand a notice of termination. I never quit - if I'm not fired I'll be at work Thursday, is what I plan on telling them. Worst come to worst I go file for unemployment and they keep paying me my paycheck for the next 4-6 months.

Thanks for letting me rant, guys and girls. It's just a bitch to get a job these days, and I got rent and bills to pay. Got a grow going on in an extra bedroom, can't really afford this right now.

  5. ^^ That sucks :(

  6. The worst part is - I still have a flat tire on my truck lol.

@ skunky -I've got my hopes on this factory right now. They're hiring and my girlfriend is a waitress where one of the supervisors from there regularly goes for a beer. He told her to tell me to put an application in with his name at the top - so I did that.

@ reeferer - that's because they're all working over here!

@ OnexLove - Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Really hope it doesn't come to that. My girlfriend has a job - but I can't bear to let her take all that responsibility on her shoulder as well as being in college. Good luck with your job search too, I'll send some karma your way.

  7. Maybe its the optimist in me but you could take them to court perhaps? especially if you don't get unemployment? that sucks :( sorry!

  8. I'm in nursing school, which is just like a job, but you don't fuckin get paid and it takes up all of your fuckin time. Anyways, I'm seriously about to drop out and try to find a job that actually pays...I feel your pain, dude. Make sure you update on Thursday...I wanna hear what happens.

  9. Yeah court requires money tho....

Sucky situation bro. I never look at it from that angle tho, I just stay positive, cuz negativity is a waste of energy. If you don't have a degree, find out about programs where they'll pay for school. You can get in college, take health, a couple other simple easy classes and get paid 5 grand a semester just to go to community college using something called FAFSA. Look it up and don't let this ruin your day. When I got fired from walmart, I was scared money wise, but it was the happiest day of my life. I felt like I had freedom and it was the beginning of the rest of my life, just like today is freedom from yours. Peace.

  10. at least you give a shit about your girl working and taking it on. when my boyfriend was jobless and i was working full time he never gave a shit. guess thats part of the reason he's an ex haha. i appreciate the karma, def. send some good vibes your way too :]

  11. I'm sorry to hear about this, but isn't it against regulation to make you do work during your designated break? That's fucking illegal, dude.

  12. Don't...once you graduate you can make some serious bank. An RN friend of mine has made 6k a month, for the past 3 years, off of OVERTIME (that 6k does not include her normal pay, that's just overtime pay).

  13. Will do. To be honest, I don't really WANT unemployment unless it's necessary. The OWNER is a good guy even if he is cheap, and I don't want to mooch off of him. I need a job anyway. I grow cannabis - it makes for a good cover. I know I could pretty much take them to court, especially after firing me within a month of the mentioned incident. Too many witnesses heard the supervisor allow such discriminatory and prejudice comments to be uttered and not do anything about it - multiple times. Two other witnesses were there when I confronted him about it.

And yeah, nursing school is worth it. Keep at it! I still got another year left until I graduate college (even though I've taken the past 4-5 years off.) I was just considering going back to a technical school, say an electrical apprenticeship. You actually get paid to do that though. Nurses make good money, you won't regret it in the long run even if its frustrating now. Try to enjoy it, maybe?

  14. So is allowing co-workers to openly use derogatory comments about a known disability. Dude, I wasn't lying when I said it was a shitty job. On one hand, losing it is a relief. I've been tearing my body up physically with no compensation. It's not worth working there for a mere $300/wk. But on the other hand... it did pay my bills. Just barely.

  15. I know someone who just graduated, got hired on a year ago, and now makes 8k, yes, 8,000 a month. Droppin out will be one of those things youll look back 20 years from now and say damn.....what a fuckin stupid thing I did. I could have....now, I could be here and have.... and .....

  16. No college degree - not sure it's worth finishing. I got a felony bust for cultivation along with some other felonies they stuck me with at the same time. So-called "friend" wore a wire on me last year. It's something I've been going back and forth on - one one hand I'm rather educated compared to a lot of my peers, but at the same time... who's gonna hire a violent felon?

I love my girl. She's been there through me through thick and thin and I feel like it's my responsibility to take care of her. She got me through my above mentioned legal issues, by helping me hire a lawyer, etc. We even discussed the possibility of getting engaged, so it's pretty serious. But yeah, men (and women alike) are pricks and a lot of us/them are just really self-centered. If it doesn't affect us/them, why care?

  17. Sorry for raping this thread and making it all about my stupid problems...and thanks for the encouragement...having a horrible day cuz of school...but these posts make me want to keep going. =)

  18. Psh, ain't no such thing as thread rape-age in a rant thread!

School does suck though, IMO. I've been through 5 years of college, and hated 90% of it.

  19. Ah well that fuckin sucks. I had a friend, like you, who was in the same boat. He finished his nursing degree, went to take the test to get hired and was informed he couldn't because he was a felon. He got depressed, felt hopeless, decided he'd rob a paintball store and was shot to death in fresno on tv. It was a shitty day. That felony basically fucked you man. Only thing I think it would be worthwhile doing is going to college to become a botanist, then with degree in hand, hit up a dispensary. You will far out qualify most amateur growers with 20 years experience, because on sight, you can diagnose almost any problem, save them thousands in costs, etc. Botany/PLANT SCIENCE is the only way to go for you now imo.

  20. I see a few more options. Business, maybe. Or like I mentioned earlier, some sort of trade. Electrician, plumbing, etc. Work for yourself and don't need to worry about it. Electrician is winning currently.

I don't mind. I don't have a problem being a slacker - so long as I can take care of me and mine. Plus my girl does NOT want to move west. I tried talking her into it lol.
