well i was reading my local newspaper and on the front page was a story about two guys in federal court for smuggling over 2200 kilos of marijuana over 5 or 10 yrs around 1998.... their both facing 40 years to life in prison.... they were old fisherman and would use their fishing boats to hide "square groupers" bales of weed that would be smuggled on boats...... discuss.. side note about growing up in the florida keys and drug smuggling my dad was a fisherman and would tell me stories about how captians back in the 70's 80's and early 90's would see bales of weed floatin in the water and next thing you know everything over the radio was square groupers floating today. and all the boat captains would go out and retrieve these bales...
lol yea in the florida keys theres a restaurant called square groupers and their desert is called a special brownie.. doesnt literally have bud it in but still funny...
my grandpa is from everglades city and he said same thing except they said the sqaure mullet lol ive been hearing that for years i didnt know if he was lying
hmmm thats interesting never heard that term before... there was also a term for bales of coke cuz well that was obviously popular.... they used to just dump these bales off their boat while they were being chased... but now-a-days what they do is they tie them up and place them on the outside bottom of the hull of the boat they put gps tracking in them and now when their being chased they have a button thats drops them from the bottom of the boat and then they just sink to the bottom of the ocean and then later go retrieve them... of course the weed would be soaked in sea water so they dry them out for a week then get rid of it... story from a guy from work that worked on the fish docks... he was out fishing and the captain of his boat had been busted for drugs in the past and had a 1/4lb on him at the time and then the coast guard came and searched his whole boat while theyw ere out lobstering.. well the whole time their searching the boat the captain is walking around eating a bag of chips all the while he would pass a coastie and offer sum chips well obviously the coasties werent allowed to accept food while working, and he went around and offered the chips to every coastie searching his boat, when the coasties left his boat he emptied out his bag of chips and rolled out along with the crumbs was a 1/4lb of brick
This is very true. I used to live in south florida, only a couple hours north of miami. To this day my friends get imports from miami (the finest bud) anyways, yes, "fisherman" used to go off on boats and fish up huge bales of product. They also used those single prop engine planes used for flying around the coastal areas, to drop off bales of product into a river or a plot of land It just so happens, across my old community an old man lives there with a nice piece of land, word has it he cashed out after a huge deal and bought himself some land, locally. After living across that man and actually playing paintball with his children, I found out he actually has one of those planes, and a helo (For recreational purposes obviously). Kinda neat huh
I know I'm super late on this lol but yes my dad and his friend did it, they had a midnight express boat and they would run it on the weekend at night to a drug mother ship that would off load bales onto the boats, back then lots of people did, there's a good movie called square grouper about it, you should check it out
